Can we take a moment to appreciate just how good of a race this is? Tons of great performances, seems kind of unusual for a season opener.

Congratulations with the Top 10 :)

Dzyma always lacked something last season. Whether it was skiing or shooting. She had 5th, 6th places and look at this first race for her! Maybe you won't have to wait the whole season after all.

Exactly my thought. So many 4 0's even despite the wind. Also I like how someone who's not in the spotlight in personal races conquered almost the whole top-10.

Alright, here are some of my points on today's race, which was very packed with excitement :)

Firstly, Herrmann picked off 23 seconds off of even Makarainen in the course time, so when she gets her shooting in a better shape, or on a better day, she seems likely unstoppable and podium potential even with 1 miss in a sprint race.

Other than that, Germany was pretty under the weather, Hildebrand still seems pretty slow, Hammerschmidt doesn't look at her best as well as Preuss with Hinz, that performed way below expectations on the skis. Props to Karolin Horchler, her being the second best German tonight will certainly make the team scratch their heads.

Another team that does well in this competition, but was non-existant is Italy. Wierer's shooting is not at where it has to be, very poor performance for the famous 20/20 shooter Runggaldier, Sanfilippo ruined her chances in the first prone, saving grace was Vittozzi.

Another team that Eurosport did not even show once today was Russia. Slivko managed a 27th with 1 miss, 2015 world champion Yurlova 33rd, with recent season podium contenders Virolaynen, Podchufarova out of the points.

All in all, Hauser is still pretty slow, as well as other Austrian girls (Zdouc 42nd with clean shooting).

Surprisingly, not a single Pole in top 40.

Very bad USA performance accompanied with a tragic performance from Lithuania.

Now for some praise,

Skardino yet again shows that she is always a factor in the individual races.

Ukraine with two girls on the podium, 3 in top 30 with 60/60 shooting.

Another year of improvement for Sweden with 6th / 15th / 25th

Fialkova's performance, Canada's top 10, Solemdal's clean shooting, great ski speed from Braisaz and best performance of the French, Finland duo not bad either, Amanda Lightfoot making a strong impression on that Olympic quota.

I'd say this race was mostly about the underdogs, so I'm interested to see how the leaders answer in the sprint.

This was such a cool race! Solemdal getting on the podium after years of depression, being overweight and everything and now, when she finally got everything in her life back in order, the result is there! Valj Semerenko getting a fantastic result after her cancer, Paulina Fialkova with a non-Slovak-like 1 miss and a fantastic 5th place, Mona Brorsson with a great result in front of her hometown fans.

And let's not forget 31st place and a staggering 55 IBU points for Amanda Lightfoot, who - thanks to this result - would be wise to start brushing up on her Korean!

Thanks to today's results, Eva Tofalvi is out of the Olympic qualifying places in the provisional ranking, falling from 6th to 7th because Johanna Talihärm of Estonia moved up from 12th to 5th.

Lightfoot passed Zhang Yan and moved up to 2nd place, now almost 40 points clear of the cut-off.

5th place exactly 1cm from the first ever world cup podium and probably a win...this is just so frustrating.

Paulína equaled during today´s freezing glacial evening her careers best finishing 5th.

Surprisingly in her the less favorite event the Individual. However, The girl has a fantastic start of season after a great (skiing) performance in the mixed relay, today she added to once again a brilliant skiing (10th fastest skiing of the day !) also a superb shooting performance, What a shame this 16th target...I don´t even want to imagine what would be happen without this minute penalisation..but well, what can we do. she finished 5th 32 seconds behind gold and 20 seconds behind podium. Anyway another great result !

Congrats Paja, keep it and one day, I believe, you´ll be on this podium !

Strange day it was also for her sister Ivona, who started the race extremely well, very fast first half of the race, ranked sixth after the first shooting. Very interesting is especially her shooting times (10th shooting time in a individual !) also very good skiing (17th skiing time overall) looks our sisters worked pretty well during summer.

Pitty for her last shooting, she attacked today her best careers result as well, but 3 faults in the last standing send her down to 49th...

Terézia Poliaková just like past season still too slow and even if she doesn´t shoot well in such conditions as were today there no chance for her to aspire for a success.

We really need to find someone for the women´s relay, pitty Gereková retired..

At least she fulfilled the criteria for the second trimester today.

Nastya Kuzmina already announced earlier that she will not compete in the individuals, in order to save more energy and forces for the sprint and pursuit for the upcoming weekend

The Olympic season! The stakes are high, let the bitching begin!

Vilukhina said Landova to stop having fun because she won't give her medal back.

Skardino said after this race that Gabi has a bad attitude & she can't judge doping offenders anybody because nobody knows how it was.

Like all the proofs never happened :mumble:

    • The only ones complaining about the short track refs are Italians, imo. Not even on this forum, but in general, from what I've been seeing on live chats and other social media sites. That says a lot to be honest. I suspect it's partially due to them not performing to the high standard they're expected to perform at especially at the Olympics. The refs make a lot of mistakes for everyone, there's no bias against or towards anyone    Plus, Italy have won 6 medals already.... the most you've won at a Worlds since 2016.
    • For me they gave Canada the gold in the relay in exchange for a 1000-meter dsq gold for Dandjinou, that's how I see it. It was a battle between Kor and Can on 2 of this case. It's hard to say why that last dsq for Kor was in relay? Of course, Italy win bronze thanks for that, but that's not really important. It would have been better if the referees had just stayed out of the results and left it as it was decided for fight on the ice.

    • the quata for europe or australia is from the primer 12, where the top 20 teams will participate, sadly  is the 21th team so the only slight chance for us in my opinion is if: we get top 2 at the european championship (not including  hopefully if they get the quata), then somehow win the final qualification tournament against i assume  and one of    the chances for us are slim, i think about 4 other team sports  have a better chance in in my opinion(and the most team sports we ever had was one, and it was the last two time after a long time )

    • well, Cuba and Venezuela for sure...   Iran is a different question, but I hope in 2 years all this war shit is done and dusted and at least in the sports world everything is gonna be OK
    • In my opinion the Italian team has been playing above expectations since last year after several years of decline. Last year, we advanced to the first division at the European Championships and now they're playing very close matches against the strong India and Scotland. We a little miss a potential to do more – we are only 18th in the world rankings. Our men's team's performance in this sport is much weaker.
