@hckosice What exactly was Adam's problem? You said everything hurt after his downhill, but did he have some injury already, or a crash or something?

awwww haha lost gold at world by 0.04  this is the DAY !!! I´ll remember all my life :d

In general, France has been pretty lucky. 3 DNF/DQs against Russia and tiny wins against both Sweden and Slovakia.

yeah thats a longer story :d He suffered a serious ankle injury during the summers pre-season training camp, the doctor said him that the only solution is a surgery, but he decided to try to compete this season and have the surgery right after the season, but he unfortunately got another foot injury during december in zagreb, but still he decided to fight, didn´t competed last few world cup races and focusing everything only for the worlds, he came to St.  Moritz but as you know had this big crash in the super G when he suffered another ankle injury (the second leg this time:lol:) and many other smaller hurts, he left the hospital just to compete for the team event, so he tried yesterday hw his foots will do in the combined but you saw how it turned out, 8 seconds behind and not even able to stand on his skis, he said he will see this morning if he can start inthe TE, but the pain was too strong :(

thats in short, hope it solved your question a bit :)

Vive la France! Team takes NTE gold

Z

France earned its first medal at the 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships today when the team of Tessa Worley, Mathieu Faivre, Alexis Pinturault, Julien Lizeroux, Nastasia Noens and Adeline Baud Mugnier earned the gold medal at the Nations Team Event in St. Moritz.

France edged surprise finalist Slovakia in the last round. The silver medal was the first-ever for Slovakia in a Nations Team Event and while it was a surprise to many, the Slovakian team was very strong and included Veronika Velez Zuzlova, Adam Zampa, Adreas Zampa, Tereza Jancova, Matej Falat and Petra Vlhova.

“I feel like we won the gold today,” said Velez Zuzulova after the race. “We have never won a medal, and I personally have never won a World Championship medal so I’m really happy with how we as a team did today and that we get to stand on the podium.”

Earning the bronze medal was Sweden, who faced-off against the host Swiss in the small final. The Swiss were looking for their seventh medal of these championships, but were cleanly swept by the Swedes, who are traditionally strong in the Nations Team Event. Today’s bronze was the country’s fifth medal in the event. They now have two silver medals and three bronze.

Every round produced at least one upset. In the first round, Slovakia set the tone, ousting Germany. In the second round, it was Sweden’s turn to provide the upset as they sent the Austrian team packing. Norway also fell to France in the second round, while the Slovaks continued to cruise, topping Italy.

In the semi-finals, Slovakia edged Switzerland in a tight duel, while the French edged the Swedes to make the finals.

“It was a challenge the whole day,” said France’s Tessa Worley. “We had to fight against Sweden in the semi-finals and also the final was pretty close. We didn’t know this morning what our chances were, so to take away the gold medal is great. We are all very happy.”

Today’s medals were the first for all three nations at this year’s World Championship, bringing the total number of nations to earn a medal so far to 10.

Tomorrow there are no races on the schedule at the World Championship as the technical skiers settle into St. Moritz and prepare to do battle in the giant slalom and slalom the last four days of the championships.

Adam Žampa ended his season today, as expected, the doctors after controling him today immediately refused to allow him any other start in the next 4-5 months, :( poor guy he did everything to start in this WCh slalom, but unfortunately...

    • Basically, NOCs can attempt to qualify in additional events without gaining athlete quotas. For example, let's say a nation already qualified in the 4- and 4x, they can use the athletes they plan to send in those events and try to qualify in the 8+. That's where the extra coxswains will be used. If a nation intends to attempt to double-up they must let World Rowing know before the final qualifier regatta.   There's a good chance the quotas may not be used and will have to be reallocated. Looking at 2024, only  would have been eligible for the men while the women there's . With that said there's no guarantee they would have wanted to double-up their athletes.   In reality we are more likely to see the reverse, nations who qualified in the 4x, 4-, or 8+ doubling-up athletes for the 1x, 2x, 2-.
    • Hey everyone, how are you all?   Reading the qualification document here and the "3 quotas for additional coxswain" is very confusing to me. Can someone (try to) explain to me please how those quotas will be assigned?    Thank you so much

    • In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
