Örebro, Sweden, May 8, 2017. The Swedish men’s national team is currently preparing for the upcoming qualification round to the 2018 FIVB Volleyball World Championship. On Friday evening, the Swedes took on Hungary in a friendly match, which the hosts eventually claimed by 3-0 in front of an ecstatic home crowd.

Team captain Erik Sundberg received the award for the Most Valuable Player of the match after putting up an impressive performance, blocking down his opponents and unleashing some devastating spikes.

“I am pleased with our performance. This is something we can build on. I am especially happy that we were able to put up such a show at home in front of our fans and the coming generations of Swedish Volleyball players,” Sweden head coach Johan Isacsson said after the match.

The friendly, which represented the opening ceremony of the so-called Mikasa Challenge, Sweden’s largest Volleyball youth tournament, gathered a crowd of about 1,800, thereby creating a fantastic atmosphere in the fully packed Idrottshuset arena in Örebro.

The two national teams challenged each other again Sunday late afternoon in Linköping, and this resulted in another 3-0 victory for the Swedes.

Since last weekend, the Swedish team has been in a training camp, working on the team spirit, going through tactics and studying the upcoming opponents. Coach Isacsson is satisfied with what the team has shown since his players have come together: “I believe in this team. We have a lot of interesting players with great potential and character.”

No official broadcasters for most of the qualifying matches in the internet :facepalm:Oh, CEV... why is it, that almost every basketball competition, even Junior Continental Cup, gets uploaded on FIBA's official channel in quality similar to standard TV broadcast, while in volleyball either there is no broadcast, or the quality is crappy with just one camera placed so noone can see anything and streamed on some unknown websites like laola1 instead of youtube?

However all games of FIVB women's world championship qualifiers in Warsaw will be broadcast by our channel Polsat Sport, so if there is anybody interested, and doesn't mind constant commercials here is working stream.

First match to be played at 15:30 today. (Czech Republic vs Slovakia) followed by other matches at 18:00 at 20:30 and this schedule will continue for the rest of the competition with the exception of 26 may where no matches will be played :)

:AUT AUSTRIA - :SVK SLOVAKIA 3:1  :yikes::yikes::yikes:

HUGE shocker in the first match of men's qualifier - Austria only scored 1 point in Euro Championship qualification tournament a few months ago, while Slovakia dreamed of qualifying to World Championships for the first time ever - with the matches with Greece and Netherlands still upcoming their dream may already be over :(

    • Canada had a great home-boost in 2010. Unfortunately, that's not the case in us – look at 2006... We won fewer medals in Torino 2006 than in 2002 (11 vs. 13)
    • Short-track is unpredictable and ridden by bullshit refs who give out weird penalties and home-advantage calls to favour the home athletes. Women’s hockey, we aren’t beating the US this time around, the rivalry series went horribly and I’d be happy if we can hang on to silver. It was that bad.    Freestyle skiing team, a lot of them have been getting injured our ski cross contenders (Hoffos, who was in the best form of her career, Sherret), Kingsbury, Oldham... Then you have Blouin, and reigning World Champion Liam Brearley in snowboarding, 2024 world champion in skeleton Hallie Clarke, and 2023 world champion in ski jumping Alexandria Loutitt who are all out injured for the season.   I don’t think you have anything to worry about, Italy will have a nice home boost and win 5-6 golds, but yeah that would’ve been pretty bad for us even before our entire team getting injured. I still view it as a disappointment either way.
    • Do you have short track, freestyle, snowboardcross, hockey x2? You'll definitely win 5-6 gold medals. If you want, I'll gladly sign now for Italy to win 5-6 gold medals in February... Canada has at least 3 girls competing for medals in the long distances, and we only have 1 Lollobirigida- also quite old.
    • team is seriously in shambles and I wouldn’t be surprised if we only win a few bronzes or slightly better at Milano-Cortina…   Our men are nonexistent, Dubreuil still is awful coming back from injury and nowhere near his 2021-22 form, he’d be lucky to get a top 16 finish. Jan-Bloemen is old and his 5,000m WC podium was a fluke, at best it’ll be a top 8 finish in each event. For the women, Weidemann won’t beat Groenewoud/Wiklund in the 5km/10km and Blondin with Groenewoud (probably, she beats her all the time) or Mangianello in the mass start, and Maltais can only aim for a minor medal at best. We don’t even have our team pursuit anymore, used to be by far the best and now we’re getting beaten by Netherlands/Japan…
    • A true champion- van der Poel came to Beijing for 2 gold medal, and he won 2 gold there, without worrying about other people from the Netherlands: Roest, Norway, or any other country. These are the kinds of people Italy lacks.
    • There's always someone who will show up there, but it's unlikely to be someone who'll win gold in Cortina. Ghiotto, on the other hand, in his best from a 1 or 2 ago, should be able to beat him quite confidently: Ghiotto beat Bergsma by at least 11-12 seconds in the 10km. If he's not in that form, he could just as easily lose to Semurunnyi or Lubineaud (sorry, if I write bad this 2 names).

    • TISC Annual 2025 - Voting Order & Provisional Grand Final Date     I have arranged a voting schedule for the upcoming TISC Annual 2025. Please see your jury's designated voting time in the table below. For convenience I have included a column showing the host country time in GMT and the local time for each jury based on their specific time-zone.   Please check to ensure the local time shown is correct as mistakes can happen!   Fortunately I have only had to make one swap to ensure every jury has a voting window within a reasonable time in their local time. That was achieved by swapping and . China will now vote in position #12 while moves to position #25.   For any juries who cannot personally deliver their votes during the live Grand Final, I will post their votes on their behalf.   Now that I have the voting schedule, I can begin work on the voting and scoreboard templates.   The provisional date I am setting for the Grand Final - Saturday 17th January.
