IIHF organization at its pure finest.

Several teams were expected to fly today to Canada in the prepared planes, but somehow all get stuck at the Vienna airport for more than three hours. Reason: the planes were too small.

Slovaks, Czechs and Austrians were expected to travel from Vienna together in one plane. Same for Players from Sweden, Finland and Russia on the other plane. However, all six expeditions waited for more than three hours at the airport. The reason? They didn't fit on the plane.

:roflmao:

The plane ordered by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is too small and did not fit the luggage of all three teams. The IIHF planned to settle people further apart and keep their distance, the airline wanted to bring them closer together and help solve the lack of space by putting luggage on board, but the teams did not agree. "All the teams are waiting and there is no solution."

Big Troubles for :GER .

8 Players tested positive today inside the Edmonton Bubble after the mandatory 5 days isolation of all teams  2 Team staff members of the Swedish team are positive as well.

According to the protocol :GER will not be allowed to leave the isolation at the hotel until the 24th December and thus will not train. :SWE team will have to stay in quarantine until the 21st December. (with the only exception for people who already healed from covid in the past)

Should be problem for Germany, they first match of the tournament against Finland is schedulled for the Boxing Day 26th December.

Seven hockey players from the Swedish team healed from Covid in the past, so they can start training.

For the other teams, this also means the quarantine is not over yet. They all have remain in isolation until next testing tomorrow. Today's scheduled trainings had to be postponed.

The whole :SVK team was tested negative, that means if tomorrow everyone will be negative again, our guys would be allowed to finally start training. Before our opening match on Christmas Day 25th December against Switzerland, we have schedulled also 2 preparation matches against :RUS 22nd December and :AUT the 23rd December.

TSN website has the full replay of the game...and it's available worldwide...well, at least it works here in Italy (even if only @ 540p for non registered, non-Canadian users)...

as in the past few years, I guess that also all the games of the world champs will be available on demand (live is only for registered Canadian users) on their website...

this is the page where you can find all the files (right at the bottom...people might need to launch the streaming 2 or 3 times before it starts without errors and/or false geo-blocking claims)...

https://www.tsn.ca/live#/

p.s. TSN is going to show all the warm-up and World Champs games in 4K definition :yikes:

and we're still fighting to have a modest HD TV broadcast of only a few games (except for the lucky Scandinavians) and a SD streaming...  :wall:

then, there are people complaining because of sat tv/internet piracy...

    • I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision)  or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less)  but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside
    • Today the funniest tournament of the season, the Shoot Out, will starts
    • Luckily for us, it happened exactly as we thought. Unfortunately, the Serbian players had to play the entire match, the difference in value between the starters and the reserves being quite large, and thus at the end of the match their fatigue was evident.
    • if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.
    • Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to go through. From your keyboard to God's ears on Canada's short track team here (I believe you have us at 4-1-1, which is realistic if everything works out).   Leaving us off the podium in speed skating women's pursuit was interesting.   Three medals of any colour in curling would be celebrated at this point after two disasterous cycles.   In hockey, I'll always take our girls over the Americans (was "lucky" enough to see them lose in 2018 in person, though. Only time in 6 Games. Haha...hahahahaha...ha).    For the men, I said above unless Canada finds a goaltender I'm not too optimistic. USA is just too well rounded. But lots can happen by then, and in a one game elimination tournament.
    • big decision by IWF   new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025   Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg   and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !    https://iwf.sport/2024/12/03/iwf-executive-board-meeting-in-manama-brn-december-2-3-main-decisions/   I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.   but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.
    • As @NearPupsays, figure skating. They are Uzbeks only by flag, in reality they are two Russian skaters who have changed their nationality
