I have to say that the future of ISG is already dark..

2021 in Turkey will be same pattern and same thing. Less countries will be interested, the naturalized athletes smash the countries which are serious, competition only limited to 5-6 countries and in the end no one really cares in hosting them anymore...

yes I also heard the same things from the Iranian officials, after Turkey they are not sure if they can find host for the next editions !

with more than 50 countries , only few are winning medals and there are so many naturalized athletes for Turkey and Azerbaijan .

only 2 players  were from the national team the rest team B

but they will qualify to the 2nd round

LOL, You know I never believe this kind of excuses "that was our B team, this was our Z team" unless I check it myself. and I did this time

I compared the roster of Algeria team in these 2 tournaments

http://worldoqt.mexico.2016.men.fivb.com/en/teams/alg-algeria/team_roster

https://baku2017results.azureedge.net/2017/05/15/09/08/48/4ec56a5c-2782-4956-8ece-c073b9724580/VBM400000_33 9.3.pdf

this is exactly the same roster, unless you tell me Algeria sent B team to the Olympic qualifier !

you know when you call a team "B" you should have another team training/competing somewhere else.

and when I said  that ?  actually even a 4th place finish wlil be good for this U21 team against the seniors.

and you also stop saying nonsense about B/C/Z teams. there are people who can google and find out the truth ;)

if the countries  sent their national teams and participate in all the sports the table of medals will not be like that:

:MAS   will get all the gold of  the diving and swimming with :EGY  / :TUN , AND :TUR:ALG   are not bad

:UZB  will dominate the boxing with :AZE , and :KAZ / :MAR   /:ALG   :TUR

:UAE / :KUW  are the best in shooting there is no rivals

:MAR / :ALG / :TUN  will dominate the athletics /para athletics  , besides :QAT with barshim / :BRN  and :EGY in javelin /discus...the Africans for the sprint

the taekwondo/judo will be between many countries

:EGY will win most of gold of karate /weightlifting and the tennis table

there is no badminton for :INA this time

:EGY  will get the gold of the volley and :TUN  the handball , :TUR / :Africans the baskett

:IRI  will get some medals in wrestling this sport of homosexual

Alamian brothers in table tennis final  TT is one of my favourite sports and was one of the few sports that I cared more about and glad to see them beating Chinese naturalized players from Qatar, Azerbaijan and Turkey back to back. I wish we could have top players of Egypt and Nigeria to have a complete tournament but still that was very good for Alamian brothers.

At the end of wrestling competition Iran won only 5 gold medals, not a great result but still OK , the level of wrestling competition was very high here, for example our 86kg wrestler (who is an Olympic Champion himself) had to beat an Olympic gold medalist and an Olympic silver medalist to win the gold medal !

24 gold medals so far, I guess Iran will finish on something like 35. only 2 days left but I think Iran will dominate Wushu and Zurkhaneh events. not our A team in Wushu here but I guess even this team is good enough to win most of the gold medals.

I assume nobody here knows anything about this sport of "Zurkhaneh" :d this is a traditional Iranian sport, very boring ! actually the original sport was much more boring but they made it a bit westernized. Iran will win all gold medals here unless they want to let other countries win something intentionally just to help promoting the sport in the world.

    • There's some doubts as to whether all three of the top Brazilians will compete though, so we'll have to wait and see about that. Might be two of them plus another who is significantly lower down the rankings, that would not help. Most important is for them to, no matter what, compete in the relay. Four years ago they didn't, because they were too late to register and simply hadn't realized until January that the top-30 was....well, important.
    • Oh the Tour de Ski Overall counts as well? That would explain the discrepancies then .   I'm sure Brazil will be in the top 30 in the end given the top 3 athletes are scored and they have better depth than some of the countries at the bottom of the rankings.
    • Awesome, thanks! I've been tracking the women's list as well (because of Brazil, obviously), and I believe I have some different numbers. I'll post it later, because I am very curious where I made some mistakes.   You counted the Tour de Ski overall standings for example, I think? I hadn't done that yet, but started realizing I probably need to.   Still in time, since only from today on (with the junior sprint) it starts to get real interesting in terms of the top-30 and so a potential extra Olympic ticket     As for Brazil, it'll mostly be interesting to see if their 2 junior girls, 3 U23 girls and 3-4 women at the world championships (including a team sprint and relay) will beat out Taipei, Andorra and Armenia, who have 1 athlete who is better than every Brazilian, but don't really have a 2nd, let alone a 3rd athlete. I'd have to consult my other list, but off the top of my head other countries to look out for should be Argentina, Croatia, Great Britain, Spain (unless they decide not to focus on it, which I think might be the case given that their best competed at home yesterday and aren't in Schilpario) and a few others.   Also, China will absolutely be on this list. They started the season with no FIS points at all, I guess hadn't competed since Beijing, but already destroyed the points for a few races in Norway (by being in the top-5 while not having any FIS points). Their absence in recent years means they'll compete in the qualifying 7.5k in Trondheim in the world championships, since they don't qualify directly, which then will mean they'll destroy the points there as well, like Baiba Bendika did in Oberstdorf (which led to FIS changing it's qualifying rules ).   Oh well, interesting weeks ahead, I already can't count the number of hours I have spent on this (rankings, calculations, and so on) both on my laptop and in my mind!
    • My conclusion for this tournament:   Best team   Exceptional performance     Worst performance     Weak teams who did better than expected     unlucky teams
    • Cross-Country Skiing NOC Quota Standings as of February 2nd   These are the quotas that get allocated to NOCs after the basic quota (1 male + 1 female) is allocated to NOC's who have athletes that have the required amount of points. These standings are NOT the same as the World Cup Nations Cup. The Nations cup only gives points to the top 30 athletes in a race while the Olympic rankings give points to every athlete which partakes in a race and also includes World Championships and World Junior Championships results. I attempted to calculate the standings using this document as I don't believe the list has been made public yet.   4 quotas 3 quotas 2 quotas 1 quota   Men   Rank NOC Points 1 Norway 13185 2 Sweden 9254 3 France 8930 4 Finland 7746 5 United States 7291 6 Italy 6442 7 Germany 6336 8 Switzerland 6145 9 Czechia 4144 10 Canada 4037 11 Austria 4035 12 Great Britain 3434 13 Slovenia 3164 14 Estonia 3007 15 Australia 2129 16 Japan 1587 17 Latvia 1568 18 Poland 1441 19 Kazakhstan 1246 20 Andorra 1170 21 Spain 1170 22 Ireland 1161 23 Hungary 812 24 Ukraine 712 25 China 621 26 Thailand 336 27  Armenia 276 28 Romania 266 29 Slovakia 217 30  Bulgaria 193 31 Mongolia 137 32 Serbia 131 33 Argentina 118 34 Korea 115 35 Croatia 97 36 Chile 80 37 Colombia 76 38 North Macedonia 47 39 Lithuania 47 40 Belgium 45 41  Liechtenstein 39   Women   Rank NOC Points 1 Norway 12310 2 Sweden 10634 3 Finland 9539 4 Germany 9529 5 United States 8562 6 Switzerland 6329 7 France 5039 8 Italy 4680 9 Canada 4533 10 Czechia 4298 11 Austria 3636 12 Estonia 2190 13 Slovenia 1885 14 Kazakhstan 1677 15 Ukraine 1304 16 Australia 1203 17 Poland 588 18  Japan 510 19 Latvia 442 20 Chinese Taipei 194 21 Andorra 183 22 Armenia 131 23 Korea 122
    • That's good, and looking down on that page it seems like it will be available to watch on-demand as well. Which I think is arguably even more important for a streaming platform and which is why YouTube usually beats out every other way of live streaming
    • They did, and so did their Pairs figure skating team and speed skater.
