I disagree with Ban: Totalitarian dictatorships tend to use sport in politics anyway, often with disregard for all human considerations (as evidenced by Russia, which has never hesitated to dope massively and officially).

Banning countries that do not respect the basic rules of the Olympics seems necessary to me. As long as Russia prefers results to rules and human life, they have no business being at the Olympics, in my opinion.

A respectable opinion.

On the other hand, I understand (even if I don't agree with) those who believe that sports should not ban people for non-sporting reasons. In large part because I recognize that it is almost impossible to objectively determine when it is justified and when it is not.

some of what coe said IS nonsense in that article, but it we are just talking about, for example, hosting pole vault and shot put etc in a more accessable city center venue (like the set up they had at the diamond league finals) i think its a great idea

Trump says 2026 World Cup matches could be moved from Boston

In an incredible show of efficiency, the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches scheduled for Boston have already been moved more than 30km away from the city! Trump is the most effective president ever!

(For anyone who doesn't get the joke, Gillette Stadium, where the "Boston" World Cup matches are scheduled to be played, is famously not anywhere near Boston)

“I could say the same thing for the Olympics, we have events that are in different locations for the Olympics. It’s based in LA. If I thought LA was not going to be prepared properly I would move it to another location if I had to,” Trump said.

“But for that one I would probably have to get a different kind of permission, but I would do that. Gavin Newsom has got to get his act together.”

Trump would need the IOC, and its new president Kirsty Coventry, to agree to any move, but it would be unprecedented in Olympic history.

Unless Eurosport comes back they might not be any full coverage in the UK. TNT will be owned by Netflix while the rest of the discovery group in Europe is being spun off.

Currently in the queue to sign up for a slot to buy tix for LA28!  Anyone else in the queue?

Got in and registered, though they put me in two separate queues.  Hoping to get into the early Southern California purchase slot, though it seems nothing is certain.

    • I can finally piggyback off @vinipereira predictions to deliver my own    I'll be honest. I was rather busy during most of the awards season, so I wasn't able to see as much as I wanted to, or normally would have been able to. Therefore, I'm relying heavily on pundit predictions and general feel this time around.     If there was a category for best poster artwork, my nominees would be: Bugonia, Eddington, Dracula, The Sound of Falling, Sirāt   I'd give best animal acting to Pipa from Sirāt   And my favorite scenes from the year are... Kids getting bewitched, Weapons Gladys getting her just desserts, Weapons Car chase, One Battle After Another I Lied To You, Sinners Turn that shit up, Sirāt Playing with arrows, The Love That Remains Street dance, The Life of Chuck Cold open, Warfare Final scene, The Plague Ship prayer, The Testament of Ann Lee
    • The article literally corrects other ones claiming it will be a case. Trump isn't and won't banned.

    • Yeah same story. Good for Venezuela.
    • Btw I highly recommend the short film 'Butterfly' which has a story related to the Olympics.
    • Once again here I am with my annual Oscar predictions post. Last year I predicted 13/23 winners which was my worst results ever by far. For the second consecutive year Brazil is nominated so I'm hoping that 'The Secret Agent' wins something, especially because it's a film from my home state. I watched 34 out of the 35 feature films (only 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' missing) and all 15 short films nominated, so I leave a personal ranking of all the categories.   ["will win" is my prediction / "could win", my alternate prediction / "should win", my personal ranking / "shoud have been nominated", a way to remember other notable work].
    • I don't know how soon that'll be though... and until then not holding my breath. Really wanted to see Caissie crushing balls at the Olympics, he deserved it for his play this tournament, and now he might not get the opportunity to. He's still young, but this will probably be Canada's best chance, and he'll only be around for Brisbane 2032 at best considering the bids in contention for 2036.    It just sucks, constant disappointment for the Canadians this year with barely anything to cheer for, and coming so close only to come up short... I'd rather us have just lost in the group stage
    • I think instead of allocating 2 spots here (for Americas) WBSC should have allowed 3 spots (rather than 2) in the 2027 WBSC premiere. ( 1 each for Asia, Europe & Americas)   That way it would have ensured two things : ONLY the top team from Americas gets the quota here ( deservedly so) additionally it would have allowed teams from Americas a second shot at qualification from the 2027 premieres.    Getting only 1 tournament , more than 2 years ahead of olympics is very harsh on the teams from Americas.
