The Asian Championships are over. This was the 4th edition of the junior championships, but only the second time ever when senior gymnasts also competed. China, Japan and Uzbekistan only sent gymnasts to compete at the junior division. The women's individual senior competition only had three competitors, and one of them only performed 3 skills and then fell off of the trampoline. This couldn't have been worse for the continent.

The Pan American Championships were concluded today. As expected, Canada dominated the competition with four gold medals and making it to the podium in every event except for women's trampoline team. The biggest surprise of the meet was Argentina, with three gold medals and seven medals overall. Gymnasts from the United States, Brazil and Mexico also earned medals.

Overall, the competition was underwhelming. One of the events, in special, was terrible: the women's trampoline team event. The US got a gold medal because they did not have major mistakes. Argentina had very simple routines which would never challenge for a medal, but since everybody else but the US girls faltered, they got silver. Mexico got bronze even after a terrible score from one of their gymnasts. It was really bad.

Preview:

2019 will be the year when China will try hard to regain the top spot in important competitions. 2018 was an important year for Canada, Russia, Belarus and Portugal, and these nations should keep strong in 2018. For the first time ever we will have double mini trampoline events at the World Cup circuit, so it's good news for smaller nations like Sweden, Argentina, South Africa and Spain. Mexico and New Zealand could be the nations that will surprise us this year.

@intoronto Good return to competition for Rosie MacLennan, finishing 18th on qualifications, which is great given the injury that kept her out of Pan Am Games.

Currently she and Smith are in second place in synchro qualifications, and with just 6 pairs remaining, she's certain to advance to the final.

    • looks like the agreement is the international federations are in fact hosting the event, not the AG organizers, so everything is up to them to make it happen.   Teqball is now confirmed to have 5 events (singles and doubles) does it mean easy 5 gold medals for Thailand ?   Padel is not 100% confirmed yet. I assume there are still talks ongoing between the IF and the Japanese organizers.
    • I feel like this year's Eurovision is more wide open than ever 😂   There isn't a clear favorite, and that makes everything more exciting. Finland is looking strong, sure, but Ukraine always knows how to surprise people and connect with them. I was checking out the odds a bit, and I was struck by how quickly they're rising.   By the way, I found a site that compares the odds pretty clearly: https://casasdeapuestaseurovision.com/   It’s nothing special, but it gives you an idea of how things are shaping up before the semifinals. Although we all know how this goes… at Eurovision, everything can change in a matter of minutes
    • Learned that Tigst Assefa  in London also lowered the women-only Women's Marathon time.  (I learned they have a women-only record, and a mixed record, to avoid pacemakers...also nevermind that she was running along with other men in the men's marathon, which had started first.)
    • Anyway, a piece of history has been written today as  for the first time ever topped a preliminary round group at the U18s.  Was about time as well though      Quarterfinals schedule is also on - The Relegation direct match GER vs NOR is schedulled also on Thursday morning at 10 AM in Trenčín
