Alpine Skiing 2016 - 2017 Discussion Thread

Incredible season for :ITA    43 podiums, 9 won, Goggia 3rd in final ranking, Fill won Downhlll Cup and the women's team 1st in antions ranking.

Season closed with a clean sweep in women's GS (after 21 years) !!!

Only a "shadow" in this season: the Wold championship with only a bronze medal.

However with a  women's team young and strong, we can see far away for the future; a little bit less for the men's team.......

Congratulations at our  athletes for this season!!!!!!!

Goggia is definitely the female skier of the season for me, what an absolute breakthrough year

Who knows how good she would be without 457 DNFs/foolish mistakes. :p

If she manages to really get that under control without losing the speed she gets with her aggressive style, damn, that's gonna be hard to beat :p

Petra is actually in Korea for the first time and today she tested the olympic piste. don´t actually know what she did during the 1st run, maybe she just stoped and walked down watching the hill  but she apparently focused much more in the second run...what a time :dhttps://data.fis-ski.com/dynamic/results.html?sector=AL&raceid=89946

btw next weekend she will compete in Germany and try a downhill for the first time in her life, in order to earn some points and qualify for the olympic combined

To be fair, that Korean in 2nd place was utterly destroyed by another young Korean at nationals last week, I think this difference with one of the best slalom skiers in the world is alright :p

First ever downhill for Petra Vlhová today. 6th in FIS race in Slovenia. not bad start in her road to PyeongChang alpine combined participation https://data.fis-ski.com/dynamic/results.html?sector=AL&raceid=88418

What a result for Nevena :SRB

A downhill consisting of two 53 second runs? :mumble:

yeah pretty weird indeed. probably the conditions allowed only a shortened race. and since it was a national championship race of Slovenia the organizers maybe just have decided to made a 2 runs race to have a fair competition, but who know...since today they had another downhill and again a 2 runs race...and Petra finished with BIB 19! 2nd behind Nevena :hyper:

    • Yes, but Geiger and Wellinger have both achieved some success in major events, while Paschke hasn't. Geiger certainly has a better chance in Cortina than Paschke at now, but it has to be the his decision to withdraw and give a chance to his team- mate. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to him. I don't think Horngacher will force him to withdraw.
