don't be mean haha

well he is great cyclist could mean a lot to other at least

I don't doubt that he's a great cyclist :p

This is just really not his kind of race, especially in his current shape..there are easily 5 Colombians who are much more useful in this kind of race in my opinion.

.

Pantano who just won a stage in the current tour. I don't know who'd take his place in the time trial during day 5.

It still depends on some medical test he'll take after the tour is over.

CARIVAN'S COLOMBIAN PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY - DAY 1

Men's road cycling team

a7801d02c72d8b1b614b5dba304b6467_1470603

It had been a perfect race. The strategy worked and Sergio Henao has a medal almost guaranteed. Until he fell. Wonderful performance by the team, specially Jarlinson Pantano, but alas, this is cycling. But even if we didn't get the ending we had hoped for they made us dream, and they made us proud.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Jossimar Calvo (artistic gymastics): Comfortable qualification to the individual all-around final.

3. Jorge Murillo (swimming): Made to the 100 BR semifinals with a national record. First colombian to swim the event under the 1-minute mark.

They took out the #1 seed, positioning themselves for a run at a medal and contributing to the bleus of les bleus during this first days of the Games.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Habib De las Salas (weightlifting): First diploma of the Games with a 6th place in -56 kgs.

3. Teofilo Gutierrez (football): Scored his second goal in a very terrible, horrible game for Colombia.

CARIVAN'S COLOMBIAN PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY - DAY 3

Oscar Figueroa (Weightlifting)

COLP_114937_d8a5e.jpg

Who else? The first male gold medalist in the history of Colombia and oficially our best lifter ever (Gold, silver and OR) got our first medal in Rio. An attempt at a new OR didn't pan out but thanks to Oscar our anthem was played for the first time in Rio and the third time ever at the Games.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Yuberjen Martinez (boxing): Great win over Ladon (PHI) and a berth in the quaterfinals. He secures a diploma and is one win away from our first boxing medal since Seul.

3. Lina Rivas (weightlifting): Olympic diploma with a 7th place in the 58k.

    • Apparently now Uhlaender is appealing to the IOC to add another spot and give it to her    Good grief, it's a US selection issue ultimately, they qualified two, how they award them is up to them... but she doesn't like their answer, and knows she has no legal standing to go thru those channels or CAS, so goes right to the IOC looking for special treatment.
    • ICE Police killed him , he was a nurse , 37 yo ... fking USA of trump
    • @hckošice Do you agree with me to some extent, or am I hopelessly dreaming?
    • Interesting forecasts, I like 'em! I think the US wins the most medals, but Norway tops the standings (most golds)... have Germany neck-and-neck with Norway for medals, but fewer gold.    Then have Canada and Italy fighting it out for 4th in 5th   Then have Sweden, Austrian, Japan, Netherlands and France rounding out the top ten, with them all within a medal or two of each other. Of course reality will differ significantly
    • A huge day for the very young Italian Bertini: despite a very tough draw, he beats Szilagy in the round of 16 and Gu in the quarterfinals! First career podium for him!
    • Time for more personal and detailed predictions:    will have it hard this time.   I'm trying to stay realistic about our chances. We're not going there as favorites in most events, and deep down I know it would be a big surprise if we suddenly overperformed or even dominated. Still, sports have a beautiful way of ignoring expectations.   We're never predicted to do amazingly well at either edition of the Olympics, so I’m desperately hoping for moments that will stay with everyone in the country for years, whether it's a final that keeps people glued to their screens or a performance that will make us proud. Just one medal could mean so much. It would bring real emotions and something to cheer for to a country that isn’t going through its best period right now. And on the rare occasion of a hockey miracle, celebrations in the streets wouldn't be an oddity.   It all comes down to four sports, the rest are out of reach:   Alpine Skiing is a big mystery, and it will all come down to Petra, whether she'll compete and eventually shock everyone with a heroic result. That's the best-case scenario. Biathlon can be the dark horse, you never know how things turn around. The women's relay is probably our biggest chance, but all four of them need to deliver great performances. As for Ice Hockey, our national sport, I'll always believe in another fairytale. I'll always believe we'll pull off a miracle. Since I wasn't alive yet when we won gold at the World Championships, I can only resort to watching old videos and imagine how amazing it must have been to watch as your country is the champion of the world in something. Best on the planet. Even the silver years later was amazing, but I was too young to actually remember it, so it's time for another hockey euphoria in the country. Ski Mountaineering is a bit overlooked in the media right now, but I believe we have a huge chance of winning a medal in one of the events. Our athletes aren't minnows.   We're a small country, still relatively young. There's not much we're known for in the world, but sports are a perfect way to build a national identity, to stop people from thinking you're still part of a state that ceased to exist decades ago. Doing well in sports is one of the few things these lesser-known countries can show off, not just the ones in Europe.   I'm desperately hoping for a medal, and we all want those two weeks of the Olympics to be amazing and full of unforgettable moments.
    • Never wanted a prediction to be more right
    • Two weeks before the Games officially begin, time to give my final predictions on the medal standings.     will beat  and win the medal table at the WOG for the first time in 100 years. All the (absurd) retirements of elite Norge athletes last season will have its consequences and they will drop to second.    will my bold pick to return to the top 3 after their horrendous Beijing performance, when it comes to Gold medals.     Germany will slip down and will have less than 9 golds for the first time in 50 years. Depending on how the chips fall in some sports, they could even be outside the top 5.   Home team of  will have their best Olympics in some, better than Torino, but it still won't be enough to get into the top 5.
