Wasn't made clear from the press release how much of the Olympics NBC will broadcast in 4K, although from what's been reported, this will just be an upscaled 1080p broadcast and not true 4K

NOS shows it as well, although....yeah, you know, 'our focus is the story' so they'll have lots of talking while there's sports going on

 

But as always, the Olympics for me is never a one-stop-shop in terms of where to watch. Some sports I'd certainly prefer on HBO (cross-country skiing, ski jumping, for example), others certainly on NOS (speed skating, 100%) and yet others might be on German TV (alpine, perhaps). It all just really depends on who is the commentator I like most or am used to the most for a certain sport.

 

Like I always hate it when watching and enjoying sports year in, year out with a certain commentator (Martin Haven, for example, for bobsleigh/skeleton), and then suddenly at the biggest moment of them all there's someone I'm unfamiliar with...I find that really distracting.

 

I've grown up with speed skating on NOS, and the commentators nowadays are somewhat worse than they used to be, but it still feels super weird to watch it with the commentary of someone on HBO or something where you just know they are not generally involved in the sport.

Exactly. Growing up listening to the same voice during ice hockey makes it pretty obvious I'll be watching on the national television. Eurosport is great for switching through the channels and looking for whatever event comes up during the day.

Bleh that's so lame. NBC had true 4K broadcasts in *2020* and they looked amazing.

Thank you to the Japanese for making that happen.  And I remember that well because I didn't have a 4K TV at the time, but my mom did.  So I watched a lot of the Olympics with her just to see all of it and it wasn't just 1 channel in 4K, I think it was 3 of them.

 

I understand the business aspect of why it's not done more often because it's harder to monetize.  Maybe that's why I still have the same TV at home that I've had since 2008

Now changed to sending just 4 staff instead of 15 or so. 
 

And it’s the biggest that actually covers Sports News (Second if adding in the NYT using the Athletic)

Woah, Peacock has official training for both downhill and luge on their schedule :O

 

(I know this usually gets broadcast in Europe, but I don't remember ever seeing luge official training available in Canada or the US before)
