:(  So sad for Vonn...of course happy for Johnson...knocked the wind out of lots of people's sails...

And Wiles just misses out in 4th.

Might we get a double in the Women's Team? :)

Really good shot.  I'm still nervous though  about Mikaela getting down the hill.

Concluding thoughts on Alpine Skiing...

Obviously quite the emotional roller coaster here.

1) Can we get a few more decent men, plz?  (Props to Kyle Negomir for finishing 10th in DH at least.)

2) RCS - So proud of his performance in the Super-G.  A silver medal I wasn't expecting!

3) Vonn - Glad she was able to climb back and reach the Olympics.  She had the goods, but we know how the story went out.  She'll continue to inspire, though.

4) Breezy - What a Gold in DH!

5) Shiffrin - After her first descent in the Team Event, I was worried for her Slalom competition later.  But thrilled to see her earn the Gold that she most definitely deserved!

6) Wiles/Moltzan - Wiles had her 4th place finish in DH, doing so after being just the second skiier (I think) after Vonn's crash.  Mad kudos.  And then this duo nabbing the Bronze in Team!  Applause all around!

Yeah, men's team needs some big improvements. RCS always shows up at the Olympics though!

It was so cool to see Vonn out there skiing. What a moment for her just to be in that start gate. Really unfortunate what happened during the run. I just hope she gets healed up and she can live a normal life.

Shiffrin's win in the slalom was very emotional. The ups and downs she's been through and getting back on top of the podium in the slalom was so cool to see. There was just something poetic about it.

Breezy's runs in the DH and the team event were awesome. Some good runs by our other women. Great games for the women and RCS!

    • Looks like i severely overestimated the intelligence of the average Bulgarian.. Tragic result, but will see what happens now. Initial stance last night was that there won't be any EU blockage, but we will be "standing our ground on Bulgaria's interests", whatever that means. The campaign and the whole election cycle was more towards our domestic problems, corruption and status quo. There wasn't much foreign rhetoric, even though everyone knows Radev's position.   It's basically wait and see at this point. Like i mentioned before, this guy isn't as bombastic as Orban, but more tactical and cunning, so i don't expect fireworks in front of whole Europe.
    • First careers Play-off hattrick for Juraj Slafkovský last night in the opening Stanley Cup Play-Offs 1st round. That was like million years since it happened last time from a Slovak player

    • To give some insight into how ridiculous Angharad's time was, the mixed relay that includes her, the infamous female breaststroker, is one second quicker than the four that includes Adam ****ing Peaty.   It's VERY rare your quickest mixed 4 includes your female breaststroker - the slowest stroke also creates, generally the biggest 'sex' gap. But if your male stroker is relatively very weak (think USA Tokyo 2020) it can be explained.   When your male stroker is Adam Peaty, backed up by Filip Nowacki, its insane.
    • Doesn't seem to be major changes.   Section 3.B has been updated in relation to the host nation quota to introduce 'eligible' into the criteria. In the new version, 'if the host country has not already qualified an athlete, the highest-placed host country eligible athlete based on the final results of the Olympic Games 2028 Qualification Event will directly obtain a quota place. If the host country has already had one or two athletes qualify via alternate pathways, the host country quota position will not be granted and will be reallocated.'   There is also a change to section F1 and F2 to introduce gender criteria - 'If an allocated quota place is not confirmed by the NOC by the confirmation of quota places deadline, or is declined by the NOC, the quota place will be reallocated to the next highest placed eligible athlete not yet qualified of the same gender from the same qualification event where the quota place was allocated , adhering to the maximum number of quota places per NOC, as outlined above (B.2).'
    • Massidda is another disappointment and Imperio- it's great that she has gold, but she's not making any progress in her results and with this result, she won't even qualify for the Olympics in 2028 (in 2024 also her failed to qualify). Considering the return of our old friends from Eastern Europe, Italy can basically give up on the sport- our chances of an Olympic medal are practically zero, at now.
