The organizers must be kicking themselves, that the only true doubles pairing actually won :d Their dream of having "big names" win the title for the headlines didn't pan out as expected.

But from the full stands you can see, that this whole thing was a success from a commercial standpoint.

Also, Ruud manages to lose another GS final, of course not as the same caliber as the singles ones, but still.

I'm so glad that Errani and Vavassori won that bullsh.t and I hope it got cancelled next time, because singles players don't always mean they are great doubles players (from Ukrainian perspective it's Elina Svitolina, who just can't effectively play this event) and seeding was also a flop, because Rybakina is a second seed when she's stiff as rock? Interesting

The seeding was based on combined singles ranking. Pegula & Draper (#4 + #5) were highest seeds, Rybakina & Fritz (#10 + #4) had the second highest combined ranking.

And obviously the only true doubles pair actually won it

This tournament will be the first GS without a main draw Bulgarian participation in either men's or women's singles since AO 1996 and without such at the US Open since 1982 :(

:FRA Bonzi defeated :RUS Medmedev 3-2 :yikes:

I wish it was that surprising, unfortunately Medvedev’s been washed all year long.

I mean his only Grand Slam win was against Samrej, in 5, at Wimbledon which tells you all you need to know :p

Samrej was the first round of Australian open - Bonzi beat him at Wimbledon in 4 so you could argue that he has improved since then given he somehow managed to drag it to 5 sets

    • Looking at Tottenham's current performance in the Premier League, it's really terrible. If they don't perform well in the remaining games, they'll be at great risk of relegation. Currently, they are only 1 point ahead of the relegation zone. It's hard to imagine a team that has long been involved in European competitions suddenly dropping down to the Championship. I don't know which top teams from Europe's top five leagues have been trapped in the risk of relegation in recent years. Tottenham have performed quite well in this year's Champions League.
    • And with a 5-1 win,  Australia is now 2-0 and in a good spot to advance to the quarterfinals. Czech Republic is now 0-2.
    • Czechs are putting up another good fight against Australia. Hits are equal and they would be leading if it wasn't for a 3-run homerun.
