Goggia spent the all entire season preparing for this one race- today, so bronze is a failure. Especially since I thought only Vonn could beat her there. Goggia still has a chance in the SG, where she's performing better this year than in the DH, and I'm counting on gold for Italy there: Goggia, Pirovano?

Dude you're :smash: Can you enjoy something?

When it comes to summer sports, Italy always lands on its feet like a cat :) Unfortunately, winter is tough, and what I feared is happening. I'd like to be wrong and say something back. So far, only Lollobrigida's gold medal has kept me from having a complete nervous breakdown.

To me, Italy is a summer sports nation more than winter anyway, to be honest.

Can't have everything. Even Norway has a big fat zeros like ice hockey, short track and all the sledding sports.

If you want to have a breakdown, wait until a whole week. There's tons more to come.

Respectfully, there are never just two contenders in a Olympic (or Worlds) alpine skiing event. Weird stuff happens all the time, Breezy winning was weird but someone like Breezy winning is far from unprecedented (heck, the same thing happened at 2025 worlds, and it was *literally* Breezy who won there too).

In Cortina, Goggia even won last year after recovering from a serious injury, so that's a disappointment. This season, she's much weaker in the downhill, despite not having suffered any injuries. Today, Johnsoin and Aicher were beatable, even with last year's form, where Brignone finished third.

I think someone should came to such countries like Poland or Bulgaria where everyone will be happy with just one medal... Really 5 or 6 golds isnt big difference, medal is medal, no matter if its silver or bronze. I really doesnt understand for example Nika Prevc yesterday, she wins silver for which 46 other jumpers can only dream now... she should respected that.

When you dominate the World Cup all season, it's hard to be happy with silver at the Olympics. I actually prefer that kind of honesty to some artificial behavior and celebrating a bronze medal, which isn't really an great succes per some of athletes. Goggia wasn't exactly happy with her bronze medal today, though for different reasons than Prevc.

I agree that we should not put all the focus on gold, but not all medals are the same.

I think it's all a matter of outcome vs. expectations. People should generally acknowledge the value of a medal of any colour (or even of 4th place or 5th place) and get rid of the 'Second place is the first loser mentality'. Still, I believe the disappointment of the Nika Prevcs of this world should be accepted and understood as well.

I recently heard an interview with a famous Italian commentator who was the voice of cross-country skiing on public television for decades, and he mentioned that every time he goes to Norway, someone he meets brings up the 1994 men's relay as soon as they find out he's Italian. I don't think there's any way to convince the Norwegians that that silver medal should be celebrated, just like you won't convince Americans that the bronze medal in men's basketball in 2004 was a success, and so forth.

Canada won 14 at home with a smaller population and with less events, so really unless Italy wins 40 gold medals they are under performing.

Population should never be an indicator for sports success.

It just needs one person who excels and participates in a sport with many disciplines (swimming comes to mind) and that statistic goes out the window.

Kirsty Coventry alone made Zimbabwe look like a powerhouse in 2004 and 2008, if you just look at the raw number of medals.

Is it bad that I want her to be off the podium just based on who she's dating?

(But ya I agree she's the favourite)
