Speed Skating at the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 Road to Milano Cortina 2026

Short track... well, that's a long story. I gave a big chance to short track, i watched it quite a lot during last games but honestly i thought i would like it more. It's entertaining, surely, but what gets me away from it - it's all these referee decisions, i don't understand many of them and they are very controversial, too many random DSQ, much too many.

I will still watch it in Milano olympics, though. Polish team have some medal chances. But other problem is that there were some doping issues around our team so I'm very afraid that some shitty doping case will appear here... but that's just my worries, maybe not needed at all.

Won't disagree to this..

I must admit I have never watched a cricket match in my life. But it's good that they added it to LA programme. And i bet it will be in future games as well. I will try to watch some of it before to the games. But first i get to know the rules :d

Dutch speedskating in the 5 and 10 km is in the worst shape ever. Last year we saw that Eitrem, Semerunny, Jilek, Ghiotto and others are better than the best Dutch skaters in these distances. Only Patrick Roest, when he doesn't get sick again, can compete with these guys in the 5 km.

The 10 km will be a fantastic event in Milano: however, the ISU wants to remove this distance from the program. Not a good idea, because this distance in particular is very, very competitive.

That would suck, the 10k is a fantastic event.

I likewise had to figure out how cricket worked.  It involved me watching some matches and asking ChatGPT a lot of questions (including sharing a picture of the scoreboard so it could help me interpret it).

Won't disagree to this.. I would be curious among the younger people in the forum what would they prefer, the current events or more exciting modifications to the sport. @Josh

I like the current events, but maybe it would be cool to have an elimination race like in track cycling for the endurance athletes :dunno:

Never really thought about it though

I feel like speed skating and short track balance each other really well.

I don’t mind speed skating experimenting with new formats (I feel like the team pursuit was a huge success, the mass start not so much) as long as they keep the 500-10000 as they are.

That's the very essence of the sport. The drama and climax is what makes it fun to watch.

Totally opposite of speed skating which offers nothing. I tried meanwhile giving time, but understood it wasn't happening it's way too dull and monotonous.

I find it very entertaining to see the times for individual laps over 3/5/10k, but I think it's a very technical sport. Honestly, I really like it, but it's a matter of taste, obviously.

I know what you mean. But there are two things in it. A close, head-to-head racing with big speed and all these corners, changing positions, is obviously very very entertaining and i do like it a lot.

But i don't understand the refeering in many cases here. Sometimes their decisions are pretty obvious and i agree with them in a second. But I think a lot of decisions are very discretionary and i don't get them, those discretionary referee decisions keep me away from this sport a bit. Even if this will be one of a very small number of medal chances for Poland in 2026 olympics.
