You don't have to wait, you can also go watch something else :p

It'd be unfair to the best athletes to let them go last though.

I agree, but it's annoying when the top 10 athletes already compete, the podium is already decided, and the remaining athletes only participate because there have to be 30 athletes in the competition.

I'm sure everyone in Italy are ecstatic to open already with 2 medals in the first event, but that downhill win would have been a dream start to the Games.

Yep, especially because we have won just once, in 1952, and I doubt we will have a better chance than a downhill in Bormio with Paris, who won 6 times here, and Franzoni, who is at home on this kind of course. We historically fare much better on difficult courses and Olympic downhills tend to be relatively easy.

Still, not much to regret today. I was way more disappointed in 2014 when Innerhofer squandered a huge lead and finished 0.06s behind Mayer.

I hope Paris can hang on to bronze because he deserve an Olympic medal more than anyone.

But that kind of goes in so many sports, if we only want the ones with a medal chance in any discipline we'd end up with a few hundred instead of thousand athletes :p

Plus: Antoine Deneriaz

How dare you :d

In previous years they tried having the favorites run between 15 and 22 bib, as to not have the best runs all happen early in the race. Not sure why they got rid of that, but I also would like a more widely distributed field.

The issue was that quite often weaker racers had a big advantage starting with lower bibs. That made the race more uncertain, but also more random. Sometimes the best racers were clearly not in the condition to win.

In the early 2000s, for a few years, the fastest skier in the last training started with bib 30, the 2nd fastest with bib 29, etc. In Super G, the top ranked athlete started with bib 30, the 2nd athlete started with bib 29, and so forth. That extended the time when the race was interesting, but the randomness was even more extreme.

Honestly not the Swiss guy I pitched to the gold today but still it seems I got the whole podium right in our prediction game 🫡

I am unashamed, at getting nothing done.
