Highest ranked judoka of the competition Iraoui :MAR (wrl 22) lost to Baba Matia :CMR who has moved up to wrl 50. (u52kg)

Yuko is back??? Why?

What made IJF change their decision? If i can recall, they changed it after Beijing 2008.

I don’t know the offical reasoning, but I think it is to make fights more active and this will limit golden scores a lot. They probably didn’t want people fighting in long golden scores with limited attacks and they are playing on shidos. A 5 second hold down can cause a win!

More rules can be found here: https://www.ijf.org/news/show/judopresents-the-new-rules

There will be a review after 2025 worldchampionships.

The last time that the Yuko was used was 2017.

The Koka score (belows Yuko) was last used 2008

  • 2 weeks later...

Do you guys have any idea on why is IJF NOT streaming the second bronze medal of each category?

They either show replays from the first match or just have a camera on the roof of the gymnasium, no narration, nothing. it is so weird.

yes, the Tokyo and Paris grand slam tournaments, which are held on 2 days only, always have this problem...

both BMM are held simultaneously on 2 different mats and only one (the GMM's) is covered by the TV broadcast

it's a shame that the 2 most important tournaments of the year (global championships aside) have this unfriendly setup

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
