:GBR Andy Murray

TENNIS

As one of the notable figures in tennis over the past few decades, Andy Murray’s legacy includes not only his achievements, but also his determination, sportsmanship and work ethic. Turning professional in 2005, Murray went on to win numerous titles, including three Grand Slam titles, 46 ATP Tour singles titles (including 14 Masters 1000) and back-to-back men's singles gold medals at the Summer Olympics (2012, 2016), the only male player ever to do so. Through his advocacy for equality in sports as well as his efforts to support charitable causes, his influence certainly transcended the tennis court, and he will be remembered for the mental resilience he demonstrated throughout his career.

:CUB Mijaín López

WRESTLING

Widely considered one of the greatest Greco-Roman wrestlers of all time, Mijaín López is regarded for his incredible consistency, discipline, accurate technique and dominance in international competitions. Beginning with the 2004 Olympics, López competed in the following five editions of the Summer Games, winning consecutive gold medals in all of them – thus becoming the first athlete in any sport to win five gold medals in the same individual event. In addition, López is also a five-time World champion and Pan American Games gold medalist. As he left his wrestling shoes in the center of the mat after his final Olympic victory, the world witnessed the retirement of a sports legend.

    • Franchi had a similarly impressive performance at the 2023 World Championships on the same distance but later she completly missing. I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
