Rightfully so! Fled Ethiopia as a child, during the Tigray war a few years ago he spent years having no clue at all whether or not his mother and sisters were still alive (they were, he has had contact with them again), I think any kind of success is amazing for him

That Filbert Bayi may have gotten a world title, but the world championships started in 1983 and it seems like his peak had ended right about then, unfortunately. Other than that, I have no idea in which sport they might ever have gotten a gold. I can only think of boxing, but that's only because of many tiny sports nations getting a rare success there, no idea if Tanzania ever had anyone there

Eritrean born, fled with his mother and sisters to Ethiopia when he was 2 years old (due to war), then as a teenager he fled to Germany.
