Her coach is very critical of the Belgian Federation. He claims that physically she was in medal shape, but the events of the past weeks, where she felt targeted by the Federation, drowned her energy. The chairwoman of one of the approximately 10.000 Belgian federations involved claims that Thiam has told untruths to the press about what happened in the past weeks.

Including "she couldn't bring her own physio therapist, because we have physio therapists in the team and they are good enough".

 

From experience: seemingly simply statements like that can be such a massive knife in the back of an athlete, depending on the exact situation.

Interesting point: maybe all of this pushes her towards trying to compete for Senegal, that'd be awesome

That would involve Belgium agreeing or waiting three years (which would be after LA 2028).

Apparently the first time since 2015 that Thiam has not medaled in a heptathlon she competed in.

The difference in lenght is commonplace in oval tracks in motorsports as well. You can have the same track with two different lenghts listed as one is measured in the middle of the track and the second is towards the bottom of the track. And the lenght varies between the two spots.

Like in motorbike speedway.  On the outside track you spend more time straight wheels, thus faster.
