The brackets are out

but there are some reports of a possible redraw :facepalm:the seedings were wrong, the UWW made a huge huge mistake.

their software automatically removed 2023 World Champs points from the ranking after the Olympics.  for all 10 weights but they shouldn't do that for the non-Olympic weights. that is stupid nobody noticed this until after the draw

Very weird not to have the tournament on a weekend. Can't remember a recent event, that started Monday to Thursday, instead of Thursday - Sunday.

Yep. we just had a redraw

and now we have the biggest match of all time (OK maybe the biggest :d) right in the first round. :USA Taylor vs :RUS Sadulaev

and Ghasempour is also in the same half. so at least one of these guys will go home with nothing.

It's because the U23 world's were held right before

even when Russia is banned they still have the refs in their pockets, Sefershaev and Lalaev didnt' deserve to be in the semifinal but the refs brought them here.

most of the better refs had been in Paris therefore they are using 2nd/3rd tier refs here. I saw lots of terrible calls today (some of them got corrected by the challenge review panel)

Tomorrow finals

55kg: :AZE Azizli vs :IRI Dadmarz

63kg: :AZE Mammadli vs :KAZ Zharlykassyn

72kg: :AZE Ganizade vs :FRA Ghanem

82kg: :HUN Szilvassy vs :IRI M.A. Geraei

great day for AZE with 3 finalists + 1 in the repechage. for us it was OKish to have two in the final. if could be zero, both semifinals were close. I believe our 63kg got robbed but that's mostly his own fault for having no Plan B.

Ali Geraei made up for his brother's terrible day who lost to a random American guy in the first round :facepalm:I expect 2 silver medals, I hope I'm wrong :d

what a night for Azerbaijan, they won 3 gold medals :yikes:

not a bad day for Iran either with 1 gold and 1 silver. Ali Geraei finally won the world title he wanted badly in his 8th try

last year in Belgrade he threw a bottle of water to the mat to save his dead tired brother. that worked but Ali himself received 1 year ban (well-deserved)  .

later UWW shortened his suspension but that didn't help him since he already missed our internal  Olympic trials and therefore he missed the Olympics. which forced him to move up one weight and now he won the gold here. life is weird sometimes.

    • If Colturi were to return to Italy, we will have another super duo after Goggia and Brignone. If Colturi has to return, it would be right now, when alpine skiing is so popular here. There are still girls like Pirovano, who are quite young and are already started winning. Alpine skiing in Italy is similar to ski jumping in Poland: there are speak about no young talents, but there is always someone new – it is a matter of the popularity of these sports in these countries and the large amounts of money invested in them.
    • World Cup Finals in Lillehammer (NOR)   Women´s Slalom:   1. Mikaela Shiffrin    2:07.61 2. Wendy Holdener    2:08.93 3. Emma Aicher    2:08.97   Full Final Results HERE

    • Holdener beat Aicher for 2nd place by 0.04 so Aicher has to win the last GS to have any chance for the overall (trails Shiffrin by 85 pts).
    • Shiffrin wins by 1.32 secs! Business as usual
    • Anna Trocker takes the lead despite a big mistake. Maybe there is some future for  alping skiing
    • Lucas seems to be on another level in Giant Slalom right now.
    • Pinheiro Braathen wins the last GS and the small globe! Odermatt DNF in the first run and he's really tailed off in the last races.
