:SWE Sweden winning a relay with 2 loops is next level stuff. Had 1 more loop than :NOR and still beat them by over a minute. Elvira was on fire today, just crushed Lou on the final lap. If she can get the shooting in order, a late push for the Overall WC is in the card, especially since Preuss didn't look at all good after the New Years break.

In the most difficult event to win for Sweden. First Swedish win in mixed relay in 15 years!

Also, does anyone know why the weekday Oberhof and Ruhpolding starts are during the day? :mumble: As far back as remember the German rounds always had the weekday starts in the late afternoon / evening, when people were off work and for a better TV audience. Has interest in Germany fallen for biathlon, because it's very weird seeing races begin at 3 pm on a Wednesday, Thursday etc..

In 2015, the decision was made to abandon floodlit races for cost reasons. In the meantime, the course in Oberhof and Ruhpolding has also been slightly changed, meaning that the floodlight masts also had to be reinstalled in some places.

In ski jumping 20 years ago had most of its competitions during the day and now 90% of the World Cup competitions are held in artificial light. I wonder where ski jumping gets its money from and biathlon doesn't?

no, I'd say...

yesterday, for instance, the mixed relays had 4.448 million viewers (33.6% rating) and the single mixed relay had 3.940 million spectators (32.7% rating), by far the highest ratings of the whole day

This season has been exciting, but I really wish for a :RUS:BLR return. This could make it super fun.

I wonder why some of those athletes aren't switching nationalities yet. I was really hoping Smolskaya would return to her home nation :KAZ but it doesn't seem so for the former Olympic champion and U25 winner few seasons ago.

actually, Smolskaya was only born in :KAZ (because her father is Kazakh), but moved to :BLR when she was 3 years young

so, her relationship with :KAZ is basically only about her heritage, but she was raised in :BLR and technically she's a "product" of the :BLR biathlon system (and she's married to a 100% belorussian man, just to strengthen her connection with that Country rather than the one she was born in)
