In 2015, the decision was made to abandon floodlit races for cost reasons. In the meantime, the course in Oberhof and Ruhpolding has also been slightly changed, meaning that the floodlight masts also had to be reinstalled in some places.

In ski jumping 20 years ago had most of its competitions during the day and now 90% of the World Cup competitions are held in artificial light. I wonder where ski jumping gets its money from and biathlon doesn't?

yesterday, for instance, the mixed relays had 4.448 million viewers (33.6% rating) and the single mixed relay had 3.940 million spectators (32.7% rating), by far the highest ratings of the whole day

This season has been exciting, but I really wish for a  return. This could make it super fun.

 

I wonder why some of those athletes aren't switching nationalities yet. I was really hoping Smolskaya would return to her home nation  but it doesn't seem so for the former Olympic champion and U25 winner few seasons ago.

I posted about Alimbekava in 2022. She was approached by Kazakhstan back then already and simply declined their offer. Guess nothing has changed since then.

actually, Smolskaya was only born in  (because her father is Kazakh), but moved to  when she was 3 years young

so, her relationship with  is basically only about her heritage, but she was raised in  and technically she's a "product" of the  biathlon system (and she's married to a 100% belorussian man, just to strengthen her connection with that Country rather than the one she was born in)
