Men's Volleyball FIVB World Championship 2025

Recommended Posts

We have no chance in a potential Round of 16 macth againstFrance: France are old and experience team (they would played poorly at the start of competition many times, but then rose to a high level later and won medals) and will easily beat us. To beat France now, Italy must be at 100% form, like in 2022. Otherwise, it will be a quick 0-3. Given our current form, I have concerns about the match against Ukraine on Thursday: they will certainly play without pressure, we must to win and we don't have the advantage over our opponents like our girls, who, even without playing at 100%, can to win matches. As of today, I see it as a 50/50 tie with Ukraine and then whoever wins: 0-3 against France in 1/8. Either way, this World Champ. will be a heavy lost for us and I hope de Giorgi will go away after this season.

You did not see what was written at Ukrainian forums after our match against Belgium ))
So Italy is still a clear favourite of the match

We only matter in volleyball: our football team is a joke, our last medal in basketball was in 2004 etc. Losing to Belgium is a scandal for me and there's no other way to write about it. It's just like Canada losing to Poland in ice hockey... One great women's volleyball team isn't enough for our country to handle all the other team sports, which are weak here (men's volleyball team shocked me today). Most Italian coaches work with other men's and women's NTs, but we get nothing out of it; quite the opposite. This is what pisses me off the most, as are the many junior medals that then mean nothing in the seniors.

BTW, I was in Lutsk in Ukraine in 2018, during the Men's Volleyball World Championships and no one there was interested them. I had to search online broadcast for the match Italy-Poland.

If we lose to Ukraine, de Giorgi should be fired the same day. It would be our worst World Champ. performance in 50 years:hairpull: If we win and are eliminated in the round of 16, I would do the same. Only a 1/4 finals could possibly save the current coaching staff. In 2022, we won World Champ. gold with a very young team... What happened to us? Where are the young talents from the another medal-winning junior teams in recent years? We have until 2028 to get our reaction on this difficult situation together and start dominating then. Leon will be playing in Poland since 2028 and beating them will be probably impossible. When he leaves, the situation will change + I would consider naturalizing Noumora Keita as a OP position for us national team (I think all the formalities could be completed by 2028). He is a strong and dominant OP, which we are missing right now. If all of this is achieved, I think we can start dominating in 2028 and later.

I think the last strong Greek NT was playing in 2004 OG in Atens. I remember that Greece could won than USA and goes to 1/2, but lost a huge advantage in 4 set? I remember good?

Yes we were ahead by 20-12 and we lost the set and then we lost the game in tie-break.. great chance to reach semifinals..

If Italy were to dominate men's volleyball, it would have to happen now. It's unlikely to happen after 2028, not now that France has started taking it seriously.

And they'll also have to deal with many more experienced teams. Brazil, Bulgaria, USA, Iran, and others will certainly be much stronger.

But now Poland with Leon it is too strong. Main problem for Italy it`s miss of dominant OP, like Anderson, Michajlow, Kurek etc. If we even had Zaitsev from 10 years ago now... If we naturalize someone like Keita, we won't have any weak points: OH we have strong ones + Zlatanov will come soon. I write again: our main problem it`s a miss of strong OP.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
