Men's Volleyball FIVB World Championship 2025

I still can't accept that we missed the eightfinals while these teams from Serbia and the Czech Republic advanced to the round of 16. It's a pure incompetence. :wall:

This is all because Bernardo decided to forget the two OHs who carried us throughout the VNL. I hope Ricardo Lucarelli is not the captain of this team next year.

Thank you Iran for doing what we didn't have the decency to do. :yes

In any case, I hope Iran wins a medal. They're very successful at the U19 and U21 levels, but they haven't yet managed to extend that success to the senior level. Who knows, maybe now's the time.

oof, that was a hell of a match :hyper: indeed a rollercoaster

After the terrible disastrous first round the expectations were very low for this match but they played much better today and deserved the win, probably even better than 3-2.

Iran deserved to get eliminated last round, The Philippines won that match (almost) only this moment saved the team, that fist touching the net after a clear kill block on match point.

that fist already gave us a 8th place finish. let's see how far that fist can carry us in this tournament:d

So, on paper we have two clear favorites tomorrow: Italy and Poland and two very close matches on Thursday: 50/50%. Although I'm very worried about tomorrow's match against Belgium – the pressure will be intense for us, becouse second consecutive defeat to Belgium at the World Championship would be embarrassing. However, if we win, we can play without any pression, as no one in Italy expects us to beat Poland after our recent matches against them.

And for Belgium it is very difficult to win Italy 2 times in a few days.

I'm feeling very fear before tomorrow match – I felt something similar before Italy's match against Poland in the Women's World Champ. in quarterfinals. I don't know why, but I'm most afraid of the 1/4 matches:question: Anyway, as is my personal tradition, I won't be watching that match live tomorrow, but I will check the results a little later (I'm glad the match is already at 9:30 CET and there will be less stress throughout the day, unlike our women's team, whose matches started at 1-2 p.m. at the World Champ in Thailand).

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.

    • I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold.  Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures
