Whether or not she actually needs it will depend a lot on Jaqueline Mourao making or not making the A criterium (under 150.00 FIS distance points on 18/19 January).

 

Last time Brazil was 1 position too low to get a 3rd ticket, but I think this time more countries got the basic quota and so fewer tickets are available for the next steps in the allocation system. Which is an even bigger deal in the men's situation, where I believe it looks like not a single nation will even get to the maximum of 8 spots.

So because they limited teams like GBR and AUT to 3 quotas for men it looks like we Will only have an Olympia relay of 10 teams. Would it be so difficult to create a system that would ensure at least 12-15 teams?

last olympics the qualification was basically the same, ten nations qualified enough to be in the relay, but six more picked up reallocated quotas to join the relay. Ironically, the two you mention (  and  ) both declined to take a reallocated quota that would have given them enough to compete in the relay. This time the reallocation process would have to go further because you have several more nations getting a single quota.

What are the chances that Italy will get a 6th quotas in the men? When will this be know at 100%?

I would say the chances are quite high, they are fourth in line. Qualifying window closes on January 18th and reallocation will start then. Last time the process happened pretty fast with almost daily updates.

That 6-place quota for men would significantly help us in the men's relay, although I don't believe we'll win a medal. We're simply weaker than Sweden, France and the USA, not to mention Norway. To win a medal, each of our 4 skiers: Pellegrino, Barp, Carollo and Graz, would have to be in their peak form on that day and one of our rivals, like France or USA would have to have a bad day. Considering that four Italian`s guys and their instability and young age (with the exception of Pellegrino), our chances are very small: also the 5-th and 6-th skiers is a much weaker, than that 4.

Again, no podium for Italy – best place 10th... And in the final, a Frenchman and a German... We're simply weak. Pellegrino will leave and unfortunately, cross-country skiing in Italy will end. Faendrich, Rydzek etc? This is the max. level of our Follis from 15 years ago. Why couldn't we train someone like that when we had our home games? Because, excuse me, 10th-12th place in a weak field at the TDS is ridiculous.

France? They invest 90% of their money in biathlon, but yet they have Chanavat, Chappaz, or someone else competing. We on the entire TDS in Italy didn't even get a single podium... One Pellegrino in 15 years and nothing. The rest are weak and will never to win anything. France and Switzerland, without any tradition in this sport, achieve 10x better results than us...

 

I regret that Cortina won the battle for these Olympics against Stockholm many years ago... At least they would have prepared well for these competitions and achieved great success at home. We'll get our asses kicked and literally nothing for the future. 90% of our stars are over 30, and they would have won medals even without the Olympics in Italy. Besides, no one new showed up.

 National Championships in Beitostolen this weekend - believe that these are going to be the final decisive races for Olympic qualification.  Live on Norwegian TV, probably not geoblocked.
