There are a number of reasons why the 50m events would be a good edition:
1. They're good events to use for universality quotas, as opposed to 200 and 400m events which can often hold up events and put those who compete in them in a bad light.
2. There are plenty of splash and dash 50m specialists in fly, back and breast that are best suited to the longer 100m events.
3. The splash and dash nature of the events make it more entertaining for the audience to watch and the edition of 6 more events would give the spectators more value for their money.
4. More countries would have a good chance of winning their first swimming medals with the likes of and being in contention.
Swimmers would have to manage their schedules around these events, like they have to do at the World Championships, and you wouldn't need to take out any events as all you need to do is extend the morning session by an hour and the evening by 30 mins.
Final weekend of the world cup and there's some close battles for the 10th spot in the nations ranking for both men and women.
For the men's side, Finland leads Austria by 11 points.
On the women's side, Finland leads Poland by 25 points.

I mean, if in such a lottery competition you count on only 1 person, your chances are very small. It's the same in snowboardcross, where for 10 years there's been one Moioli in women's and nothing. The opposite is snowboard alpine men, where we have 4-5 candidates for the podium in giant slalom and someone always surprises: if not Bormolini, then Fischnaller etc.
