Are these Olympic Games going to reach 100 medal-winning nations for the first time? (88/100)

Recommended Posts

Uruguay's chances dropped significantly, as rower Bruno Cetraro ran out of steam in single scull semifinals.

3 new countries since yesterday : :ISR and :POR (Israel is group 5, so that's the 7th in group 5/6/7) but also :CZE who is in final of mixed tennis. We reach the 50 nations !

That's pretty difficult now, but many countries are still here. I'll do a recap event by event this week-end.

This afternoon, we can have :

Sailing Skiff M :URU

Trampoline W :AIN

Trampoline M :AIN :COL

Sailing Windsurfing W :PER

Sailing Windsurfing M :ARU

Judo +78kg (Repechage) W :BIH

Judo +100kg (Repechage) M :CUB

Swimming 50m Freestyle M :CAY

Swimming 20m Backstroke W :AIN

Cycling BMX Racing M :COL :CHI

Cycling BMX Racing W :COL :DEN

Athletism 1500m M :KEN :ETH :BDI :UGA

Many little countries today, we hope they will make something !!!

Update

I didn't notice, but :TPE will also have their first medal in Badminton Mixed (in final). So we are at 52 !

Furthermore, :VEN can win their first medal in Fencing this afternoon !

For the overall; I am thinking that Week 1 we have had mostly Rich Country sports - horses, sailing, tennis, swimming etc etc.  Week 2 is much more varied - athletics, taekwando, wrestling, weightlifting.

53. :DOM in boxing.

Oh, all players in SF are medals in boxing, that's true !

So :DOM and :CUB are medaled, and we also have a big look on the -51kg match between Zambia and Cabo Verde : whatever happened, we will have our first Groupe 7 Medaled !

(And I hope it will be Cabo Verde, it would be their first medal of their history !)

Btw the count is now at 55 : :AIN win the Silver in Trampoline.

We will get in someday. Just depends if it will be sooner through the boxing, or will have to wait for the endgame trifecta of wrestling, weightlifting and gymnastics.

First medal in history for Cabo Verde :CPV  !!! in boxing -51kg (M)

We are now at 56, but there is still 10 000m M and BMX tonight.

+ an other boxing match in +92kg where Armenia can reach the SF.

    • I will do my best to organise a pairs competition also involving nations from the 4 teams that are eliminated in the first half of the team competition along with the lowest ranked individual nations at the halfway point (end of session 2) to form 8 pairs. Pairs will be balanced so that the highest ranked nation in the competition will be paired with the lowest ranked nation, second highest with the second lowest and so on. All of that will be based on the individual ranking at the halfway point.   This way every nation will have at least interest in some event until the end of the 3rd session.   I will probably base it closely on @mrv86‘s proposed rules, and have sprints every 3 rounds of votes. The pairs with most medals from those 3 rounds get the points along with an extra bonus for medal and points doubles.   I do only have 1 day to organise this now so I can’t promise anything though.
