From :SWE PoV Duplantis is the as a close bet as possible.

I’m not sure I’d have pole vault for a safest bet regardless of how amazing Mondo is. There are too many variables with PV that can lead to strange results.

McIntosh could beat Titmus for gold.

Is she definitely swimming it? Aware her schedule is going to be pretty heavy with freestyle, 400IM and relay duties.

It’s her best medal chance on the first day, and she’ll be fresh so I don’t see why not. If she can pace her race well she might be able to push Titmus, otherwise she could finish anywhere from silver to 4th. Given her rigorous schedule it’s unlikely we see her do the double with the 4x100m freestyle relay. MSH, Oleksiak, MacNeil, and Ruck will make up the finals lineup probably.

From 🇬🇧 perspective it has to be the women’s lightweight double in the rowing. They have not been challenged let alone beaten in the past 2 years. It’s as safe a bet as there is at this point.

Tradition. I remember a wonderful point where the best men's pair in the world was Steve Redgrave and whoever he chose that afternoon to row with, while the second best boat was Matt Pinsentt and whoever he chose the same afternoon to row with - the famous "let's crush some dreams" period - one of the oddest things about the Atlanta debacle wa how absolutely certain it was that those lads would do the business. At their best Glover and Stanning came close to that level of sheer brutal mental dominance.

I'd say the closest thing to a gold medal lock Canada has is McIntosh in the 400m IM, but I hesitate to call McIntosh a shoe-in in any race.
