incomprehensible what is happening to the Italian Olympic champions?? they won't go to the games :ITA

The entire period from 2021 they were out of shape, but their form in this competition is scandalous. A few weeks ago at the European Championships, they lost to Greece by less than 2 seconds with a different lineup. This squad from the Olympics turned out to be a total failure. Unfortunately, Italian rowing is getting worse and the staff is making bad decisions. We will only qualify 7 teams, which is the worst result since 2012, when our other coaches in Romania are building their power there...

Most of the Irish coaching team is Italian too (though not in the lightweights)

We don't have money to keep the best coaches in the country and they are leaving. The same is true in alpine skiing...Results of the women's team in rowing are scandalous and even the probable promotion of 8 to the Olympic Games which has no chance of winning a medal there, will not change it.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
