I think it would be bold to put Wiffen ahead of Hafanoui ,Short or Finke.

They are up 3 seconds faster in the 800m and generally don't bother with Short course.

Peaty could be the deal breaker for the mens medley relay,but China look way too strong.

I think very foolish to write off Wiffen but just my personal view he could be one of the stars of the pool in Paris.

 

as for the mixed medley it hinges on the McInnes fly leg on whether GBR can sneak a medal, but it will be challenging.

 

on the 4x100m free, US will be favs (especially if Dressel gets back to peak form - which I don’t think is a given). However GBR had 3 47s and a 48 flat 4th at trials so lots of scope to push those times down to a very competitive relay squad in Paris.

Im not writing anyone off,as swimmers that are not on this list will win Olympic Gold Medals

As for the 4 x 100m Relay,as an Australian,we also have 3 x47s  and a  48.0 (Chalmers,Southam,Cartwright and Taylor) also noting that Chalmers is an absolute weapon on anchor,BUT,USA will have too much depth even without Dressel (Alexy especially)

I don't think Zhang Yu Fei will win the 200 butterfly again.

 

And Regan will surely be on that podium.

 

I also think Steenbergen will be a medalist in the 100 meter freestyle.

 

I don't think Douglass will be bested by two swimmers in the 200 meter dash, especially McKeown. I don't see Curzan over Smith in the 200 backstroke.

 

I think Wasick and Walsh have a better chance of medals than Campbell, it's just that if Douglass doesn't enter, then she would be silver.

 

I see more Schouten or Schoenmaker in the 100 breaststroke than King

The US didn't have too much strength last summer in Fukuoka.

 

Adding in the GBR heat swim (adjusting it slightly slower for a legal takeover), the US were only capable of producing the 4th fastest time of the meet, behind Aus, Italy and GBR.

 

Obviously with their general strength, having them as favourites is perfectly reasonable and even more so if Dressel is close to form. But if someone had one of those others as favourite, I don't think it would be an unreasonable shout. And that's not even considering the Chinese.

I know some people here get shitty when you talk about China having strong prospects to medal but they could feasibly have a 46 lead off, a 46 anchor plus a couple of 47 mid splits. That's some serious firepower.

Yeah, my bigger 'concern' with China is whether they perform on the very highest stage. They've always put fast times down in domestic meets but not always collectively performed on the international stage (they've always had a couple of stars who've performed, but not necessarily the team as a whole).

 

If they can solve that problem on a consistent basis, they are a force to be reckoned with.
