I had Just checked for Taekwondo seeding with only -M58 80, W57 and 67+ where Korean is in.

I cannot confirm but..

for M58, this looks right.

I cannot clearly distinguish between seed 14~16 as some players are from -67 ranking

A. Stolbova (-67kg 12th) :CZE

B. Traill (67+ 152th) :FIJ

C. Aguirre (-67kg 75th, Kyorugi ranking-73kg 165th) :CHI

I think there is the same issue for 49kg W where El-Bouchti has been reallocated a quota via 57kg ranking (not sure why BTW). She does not have a ranking in thr 49kg so will she be #17 of the seed or will they consider the ranking points from the 57kg ranking to place her somewhere in the 49kg ranking and seed her accordingly? The situation is different from Stolbova because in her case the rankings are the reason why she received quota so to simply ignore her ranking would be weird.

Laurin will be top seeded

Of course I also thinks that top seed for Laurin is reasonable, but I maybe saw here that Laurin used home quota so she ll be 4 seeded. Do you have some related reference? Thanks

For El-Bouchti

https://worldtkd.simplycompete.com/playerProfileV2?countryId=null&searchQuery=null&month=6&year=2024&subCategory1=11ea9376-4530-2b19-aefb-0af9674366aa&rankingTypeId=11ea9376-1b54-af01-aefb-0af9674366aa&userId=11e6eef4-48d9-4c48-92b4-12f817a4f090

If you see her profile in 2024 June ranking, she also have ranking of 49kg #43 World Kyorugi ranking point. I think she could also be counted into 49 olympic ranking based on this data, although this would be lower than her original January ranking..

Doesn’t matter which quota she used, she will be top seeded

The rule is simple, host gets 4th seeding if they don’t have someone better than 4th in ranking. If they have someone, then ranking applies, in this case Laurin is no 1 in the ranking and will be seeded no 1.

I was looking into taekwondo rankings. This appears to be the ranking (end of June) they will use for seeding:
https://worldtkd.simplycompete.com/playerRankingV2?limit=25&pageNo=1&month=6&year=2024&rankingCategoryId=11ea9376-9371-e3ef-aefb-0af9674366aa&subCategory1=11ea9376-4530-2b19-aefb-0af9674366aa&rankingTypeId=11ea9376-1b54-af01-aefb-0af9674366aa

I understand that the French athletes when present will be ranked at least 4th (but can be ranked higher if they have a higher ranking than 4th).

Anyone willing to take a look and see if the seeding I derived for the 58kg makes sense?

Yep, that's exactly the order I got, which would give us the following main draw:

image.png

Obviously the repechage for bronze depends who wins the semifinals.

now, we could both be wrong !! but that's my reading of that class.

If it went entirely to seeding (just for argument) the repechage would IRL v KAZ, AUS v SEN - followed by IRL v ESP, AUS v FRA/KOR with ESP and FRA/KOR getting bronzes

Thank god TKD is played on mats, not paper...

Olympic Ranking doesn't work like this. athletes had a short window at the start of year to change their Olympic weight and once they do it. they can't reverse it back until the next year. while in World Ranking you can be ranked in different weight classes but in Olympic Ranking that's not possible. you can be ranked just in one weight.

Bouchti moved up to 57kg after she failed to qualify for the Olympics and therefore took all of her ranking pts to the new weight. she received an unexpected Olympic quota few months later but unless WT does something super special she has to be ranked #17 in Paris.

I followed this case in past couple of months because this is crucial for our girl Nematzadeh, if they put Bouchti back as the #7 seed, (which is very unlikely but with WT you can never be sure) the current seed 7 Nematzadeh has to withdraw.

It's often oddly in the nature of these things that the second seed has a better OVERALL draw than the top seed, until you get the semis, albeit the top seed gets the pest pickings of their half - equally the fourth seed often has a pig of a draw - given some artificial french 4th seeds, that quarter is likely to be 'unpredictable'

    • this is not funny at all, pal
    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
    • Always dreamed Gretzky will draw Slovakia was another moment I can already remove from my things to do before die list
    • Finland have been awful in almost all winter sports, well beside ice hockey and cross-country from time to time, for a lot of years. It's very good to see them building people to challenge for wins again. Their new coach has done wonders it seems.
    • 14th June in Philadelphia against Cote d´Ivoire   20th June inToronto against Curacao   and 25th June in Philadeplphia to kick out  home    Not easy, but not the most difficult group. Should be okay. Vamos
