The women's team:

No real surprises - Pitman and Healey are world class (if a little inconsistent). No place for Jaspreet Sagoo though which is disappointing given she was part of the gold medal winning team from last year's European Games.

The men's short list:

This is an absolute 'mare of a list - only 3 of the top 6 are on GB Archery's podium squad. James Woodgate and Monty Orton were both in the World Championship team last year (and were GB's highest placed qualifiers) but have failed to make the cut for selection. Think we can say goodbye to team quota for the men unfortunately.

May be an image of 1 person and text that says "Jarchery GB TOP SIX PROGRESS TO STAGE TWO RECURVE MEN SELECTION 1 Conor Hall 3275.2 points 7 3086.4 points Michael Judd 2 3250.0 points Alex Wise Ryan Holden 3074.0 points 3 Tom Hall 3210.0 points 9 3073.2 points James Woodgate Patrick Huston 3202.3 points 10 Anthony Wood 3059.3 points 5 3134.1 points Max Oakley 11 Monty Orton 3007.4 points 6 3110.2 points Roger Castillo"

Men's quota always seemed unlikely tbh. Frankly, just getting a male in to be sure of a mixed pair will be a relief.

Final 4 for the international team selection confirmed:

Obviously, Pitman and Healey are world class - I think I am right in saying that they have both been world number 1 within the last couple of years - but Rogers is ranked 560 whilst Havers doesn't even have a world ranking from what I can see. I'm not sure that's a recipe for an Olympic quota but I hope to be proved wrong.

Men's final 4:

Huston is world 49, Tom Hall is 54 with Alex Wise at 89. Despite Conor Hall being the top scorer in this qualifying competition, his world ranking is a lowly 234 - so not exactly the makings of a world beating team. Maybe this will be a case of the collective team being stronger than the sum of the individual members.

Encouraging result for :GBR men as they take silver behind Italy at the Kahraman Bagatir Spring Arrows Tournament in Turkey. Team was Conor Hall, Tom Hall and Alex Wise.

In qualifying, they comfortably outscored the 1932 achieved by the team at last year's world championship. Indeed, if they had scored 1991 in Berlin they would have finished 3rd in qualifying. However, this was a much higher scoring event - France topped qualifying with 2041 - so GB's improvement was broadly in line with what the other teams achieved.

En-route to the final, they took out Uzbekistan in the first round and defeated Egypt in the semi-finals. Probably their most impressive win was in the quarterfinal when they defeated top-seed France.

In a reversal of usual fortunes, the women have had a pretty mediocre tournament. The women's team of Bryony Pitman, Penny Healey and Megan Havers finished n 9th place. GB finished qualifying in 6th place but, unlike most of their competition, GB were unable to outscore their qualifying from Berlin. They then lost their first-round match to Australia.

Noticed there is no women's team for the European qualifiers starting soon. Hoping it's a mistake but does seem strange.

No mistake - GB women cannot compete at the European Continental qualifier because Penny Healey won the individual quota at last year's European Games.

The women's team will be competing for the team quota at the European Championships which take place next week.

Archery European Continental Qualifier:

Conor Hall scores 659 to finish qualifying in 7th place. Alex Wise ended up in 8th place with a score of 657. After a bit of a dodgy start, Tom Hall had a better second half, scoring 645 for 21st place (at one point he was down in 44th so this is a pretty good recovery)

Alex Wise and Conor Hall are advanced directly to the round of 16. Tom Hall will enter the competition in the round of 24.

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
    • c'mon, guys! relax! sciallatevi un po'!    you're making me sick...it's just the season start and this is a sport where only the world championship (and Olympic, in the specific years) medals count   don't get mad for a couple of races held thousend miles away from home after the team had already passed their first climax (the internal selection)...there are still 2 full seasons before the Olympics

    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)
