Taekwondo ETU European Olympic Qualifier 2024

Recommended Posts

What a poor match to end the day felt both players should have been disqualified.

Patrick Divkovic came from a round down to win next 2 by 0-0 margin on superiority

Thomas Bach visited personally ITF meeting where they decided to allow russian and belorussian tennis players to take part in doubles and mixed.

The reason - they quallify not as a team but according to their persoanal rankings. That is the difference with other cases. Very controversial decision.

So right now it is up to russian government whether to send athletes ot not.

2 most possible outcomes:

1. They send athletes only in a small number of events (wrestling, taekwondo, judo, tennis) where they have real chances to get medals.

2. Athletes "themselves" refuse to take part in the games under the proposed conditions (of course they will be just instructed what to say, like before 1984 Olympics).

Where you saw this decision regarding doubles and mixed? I could only find this note which basically says the same thing we all know.

Wait, so you wanna that they can participate doubles as Neutral athletes? So lets say, that mixed doubles pair could easily be for example :BLR Aryna Sabalenla and :RUS Andrey Rublev ?? 😳😳

I wonder how Minina can qualify to Olympics when she sure support Russian war agresor:

"After the championships, World Taekwondo was to investigate the claim that competing Russian athletes, including Minina, violated the principles of neutrality because they had liked multiple pro-war posts on socia media.[8] In August 2023, Minina also readily accepted awards from the Governor of Chelyabinsk Oblast Aleksey Teksler who is sanctioned by the US and UK for backing Russian invasion of Ukraine.[9] In 2021, Minina had thanked Sergei Shoigu for a medal of Ministry of Defence and posted pictures with him in her social media.[10]

In men's -80kg the quota went to Khramtsov who was much more clear in his support for the war. So I guess European Taekwondo is effectively allowing all Russians now.

    • so, one of the most boring world cup stages ever has ended    if it wasn't for  and , winning 1 gold medal each, a  sweep would have come true, as they won all the remaining 8 gold medals (and a bunch of silver and bronze, too)    while some sports are brcoming more and more global, it looks that (rifle and pistol) shooting is going the other way round, it's becoming less and less global, with just 1 or 2 dominating Countries and a few others filling the (minor) gaps here and there, with always less Nations capable to win medals (only 12, out of 10 competitions) and even make the final    now the Rifle and Pistol world cup takes a break to allow most Continental championships to take place between the end of April and May.   It will be back in  Munich in the last week of May.   In the meantime, the Shotgun specialists will be on stage from May 2nd through May, 11th in  Almaty.
