On a side note: as someone who also writes articles about sports, don't you find it annoying that they literally write down the quotes, even when they are just....wrong? Like "they was just taking too long", "them blocks look like" and "we at a professional meet" Edited June 10 by heywoodu If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! In this instance, Kerley's using a lot of AAVE (African American Vernacular English), so the quotes aren't really "wrong," so much as following a modified gramatical structure from standard English. Here's some info about AAVE for users who haven't heard of it: https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/african-american-vernacular-english De_Gambassi, Faramir and phelps 2 1 “Sport has the power to change the world. De_Gambassi 961 Posted June 14 #707 Share Posted June 14 Not your typical athletics venue. Tomorrow there will be a pole vault meeting at the national museum of air and space near Paris. Renaud Lavillenie will be there chasing for the olympic qualification. Olympian1010, hckošice and Josh 1

Tom & Jerry cartoons are racist badthing because they use the AAVE of 1940-1950. A newspaper article is racist badthing because it it does NOT use the AAVE of 2024. See? Simple.
