Can I just say, I hate how most matches are determined by a toss of the coin. Let me explain for those of you who don’t follow badminton, in this tournament (Indonesia Open as another example) sides matter. During set one (and set three if it comes down to it) you’ll want to be on the side facing away from the crowd, as there’s a slight wind in the hall, which leads to very lopsided sets. Of course, that’s not always the case, but more often than not that’s how it turns out.

:hyper::yikes::yikes: :CAN Brian Yang beat current World #3 :CHN Li Shifeng 2-1 (21-18, 14-21, 23-21) in the R32 at the BWF Super 500 Indonesia Masters! Probably one of the best ever wins for a Canadian men’s badminton player in recent years.

What. Just. Happened.

:CAN Brian Yang is through to the final at the BWF Super 500 Indonesia Open, after defeating World #4 :INA Anthony Ginting 14-21, 21-17, 21-19!:bowdown::hyper:

He was 9-13 down in set two, and 15-19 (!) down in set three, but fought back brilliantly (that and Ginting was producing a bunch of unforced errors), even pulling out the forehand serve twice near the end. What a moment for Canadian badminton, he’s the first ever Canadian to ever reach a Super 500 (or higher) final!

Won’t be a first ever Super 500 title for a Canadian, as :CAN Brian Yang loses 21-18, 13-21, 18-21 to World #7 :DEN Anders Antonsen :(

Still an excellent tournament for him, so much to be proud of. Hopefully he can maintain this type of form heading into Paris.

First semi final in a 500 or above bwf by a an Indian women other than that awesome twosome Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu ....shows that we have a very poor talent pool in women's singles in India .... Ashmita had a dream draw ..... So not sure it was luck ...but great job by Ashmita

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.

The FIBA World Cup Qualifier in P.R. is a throwaway tour- nament for Team USA after the Gold Medal Game debacle. This is the perfect environment to test the Young Guns to see who has it, who does not, and who needs more devel- opment. The 2026 FIBA World Cup in Berlin is the tuneup for 2028 in L.A. • I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold.  Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures
