Biathlon 2020 - 2021 Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Biathlon ain't a popular thing in Serbia but this is old news by anyone's standards.

This news is like 4 years old.

http://www.biathlon.pl/aktualnosci/5236/domraczewa-podporucznikiem-kgb.html

Even fucking Guardian run a major story on this:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/feb/22/former-kgb-agent-darya-domracheva-wins-biathlon-gold-medal-at-winter-olympics

Domrachava stopped being a KGB member in June 2014 according to all these accounts. Even her wikipedia page has this info listed.

Oh, well. Belarus usually doesn't get a lot of press coverage even considering their top athlete of the last decade or so :p

That would have been about the time that she and OEB started to have fond feelings for each other.  Maybe he was a NATO spy, she was a KGB spy and they fell in love not through biathlon as we are led to believe, but through their spycraft.  Perfect cover!  :d

26-27 September is D-Day for the first 4 stages of the World Cup.  The IBU Executive Committee will meet then to figure out what to do.

“As the IBU noted in its latest press release, it is evaluating various options. Including the option that involves a reduction in the usual number of trips and a longer use of one of the sports facilities,” the international organization explained.

The first four stages of the World Cup of the new season should alternately be hosted by Kontiolahti (Finland), Ostersund (Sweden), Hochfilzen (Austria) and Annecy (France).

@RobtheAggie We can still have a proper season with one venue hosting like half of the schedule if neccessary (see 2000/01 season and Anterselva hosting four rounds).

Yep, it seems like that might be in the cards.  If that were to happen, my bet would be Kontiolahti or Ostersund.

Yeah, mine too with Russia still on the IBU black list. Khanty-Mansiysk is as isolated as it gets but no chance for that one.

If Belarus wasn't so troubled with the elections backlash I'd expect Raubichi to make a great run at the World Cup too - then again if Lukashenka survives for the  next two months we can still see that happen.
