Especially when we remember those disasters on World Cups :d

Nobody in Brazil except his family believed in Thiago on top-3 even a gold medal, he wasn't well on World Ch'ship and PanAm... what a great surprise!

Well then they don't know much about athletics, because it was always really clear that he had the potential to medal :p

Basically since his world junior title in 2012 I've been thinking he might be ready for a medal in time for his home Olympics :)

But before Olympics he still seen as a promise for the future, but not a big potential medallist in Rio. Okay, he was junior medallist, but didn't appeared well on two big competitions for brazilian athletes, most of media (and me, including) didn't believed on him, and, thank all gods, we are all wrong :d

Hahaha, the Chapolin dolls! They are from El Chapulin Colorado, a Mexican sitcom from the 70s and 80s which is very popular in Brazil. It's nice to have Mexico being part of this moment, somehow. :BRA :MEX

Complete and utter BS in the women 400, you run on 2 feet, you get off them you are DQ'd, simple as that, it's not a long jump hybrid and you dont jump into the water for 50m freestyle, Allyson Felix got completely screwed here!

Yes and that would have been the better decision, but of course it's easy to say afterwards.

    • Here's a comparison relative to 2024 (I removed the new team sports to make it more comparable). This ignores Belarus and Russia.   Largest Increases Relative to 2024 1.  +58 2.  +44 3. +31 4.  +29 4.  +29 6.  +28 7.  +27 8.  +24 9.  +22 10.  +21 10.  +21   Unsurprisingly, the United States is expected to see the largest increase thanks to host quotas. It's not as massive as previous host nations, but that's because they don't need host quotas for most sports. South Africa is looking at a big increase, but only if they accept the water polo quotas this time around.     Largest Decreases Relative to 2024 1.  -135 2.  -43 3.  -38 4.  -33 5.  -31 6.  -29 7.  -28 8.  -26 8.  -26 10.  -23 10.  -23   Again, no surprise to see France topping the list as they no longer benefit from host quotas. Ireland takes heavy losses not only by losing two large team events, but is generally down in most sports. Interestingly, Italy has the same number of large team events, but it's the drop in athletics and rowing which caused it to be so high up in the list.

    • Thanks to everyone who voted for , and especially to @OlympicIRL for another win and for putting in the effort to organize this edition! Unfortunately, I’ve been really busy these days attending online events about archaeology and museums. Hopefully, I’ll find time to participate next time.
