All runners in the 5000m who were DQ'ed have been reinstated, @Moh_Speed back into 5th place #rio2016

Wasn't the medal ceremony for that already held?

Yes, shockingly bad level, even in womens heptathlon 2 girls jumped higher. Kuchina couldve won the gold here even if she wouldve jumped drunk like Ukhov once did.

Spain wins another gold out of nowhere, they are probably the most lucky country in olympic history, the probability of them winning 5 or more golds was probably at about 0.00000001%.

Hello, Olympic Fan.

First of all, I would ask respect for Spain, a country that is struggling to emerge from recession and whose athletes are in a difficult situation, with little help.

I'll remind the world champions we have had in recent years;

- Fatima Galvez (Shooting, Trap)
- Alberto Fernández (Shooting, Trap)
- Echegoyen / Betanzos (Saling, 49er FX)
- Javier Gomez Noya (Triathlon)
- Carolina Marin (Badminton)
- Miguel Angel Lopez (Athletics, Race Walk)
- Female Waterpolo
- Men's Handball
- Joel González (Taekwondo)

---

And many other world runners-up and bronze medal. ¿Is this a 0.00000001%?

Regards

I am very happy haver seen the victory of Ruth Beitia in the high jump, the first woman Olympic champion in athletics Spanish. :ESP

Although not a final high-level, all had the same opportunity. Ruth gets the recognition of his career, for 37 years he will retire soon.

Thank you, Ruth

Our commentators have called the victory Ruth the best moment of the day and an example for other athletes :yes

Congratulations on great Olympics :d

Of course there is no way the chance of winning 5 gold medals was 0.000000%, it was actually quite realistic, well done :p

    • so, the Swiss reigning champions, who saved their ass in the last match of the RS, now are almost safe in the semis once again...   very impressive performance also by RB Salzburg, I didn't expect them to make such a good run, even if the 2nd leg match won't be easy at all and they're all but safe in the final four
    • Knockout Stage   Quarterfinals, 1st Leg (Part I) Tuesday 03.12.2024 - Results   Sparta Prague (CZE) - Växjö Lakers (SWE)  1-2 (0-0, 1-1, 0-1) Red Bull Salzburg (AUT) - Färjestad Karlstad (SWE)  3-1 (1-1, 2-0, 0-0) Genève-Servette (SUI) - Pinguins Bremerhaven (GER)  4-0 (2-0, 1-0, 1-0)
    • I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision)  or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less)  but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside
    • Today the funniest tournament of the season, the Shoot Out, will starts
    • Luckily for us, it happened exactly as we thought. Unfortunately, the Serbian players had to play the entire match, the difference in value between the starters and the reserves being quite large, and thus at the end of the match their fatigue was evident.
    • if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.
    • Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to go through. From your keyboard to God's ears on Canada's short track team here (I believe you have us at 4-1-1, which is realistic if everything works out).   Leaving us off the podium in speed skating women's pursuit was interesting.   Three medals of any colour in curling would be celebrated at this point after two disasterous cycles.   In hockey, I'll always take our girls over the Americans (was "lucky" enough to see them lose in 2018 in person, though. Only time in 6 Games. Haha...hahahahaha...ha).    For the men, I said above unless Canada finds a goaltender I'm not too optimistic. USA is just too well rounded. But lots can happen by then, and in a one game elimination tournament.
    • big decision by IWF   new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025   Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg   and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !    https://iwf.sport/2024/12/03/iwf-executive-board-meeting-in-manama-brn-december-2-3-main-decisions/   I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.   but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.
