@phelps how many World Cups we have till the end of Olympic qualification (April 2024) ?

speaking of men's Sabre, I see only two more World Cups scheduled, in Italy and Hungary. shouldn't be another one between Feb-Mar-Apr ?

(maybe that was supposed to be in Poland and FIE is looking for a new host?)

Quote

It should be 3 more events in each weapon, but FIE's calendar right now has 4 events in women's Team Foil and only 2 in men's Team Sabre left :mumble:

so, I guess there's a mistake in their list and we actually have 3 events left in all the weapons...I hope they fix that soon (but with FIE never be too optimist, it might take 6 months to understand what they're doing :facepalm:)

@MHSN

FIE have fixed that :pope: :evil:

men's Sabre now actually has 3 more Team competitions in the OQP: :GEO Tbilisi (11/02/2024), :ITA Padua (3/3/2024) and :HUN Budapest (24/3/2024)

on the other hand, it's still uclear why also the women's Team Foil has 3 more events in early 2024, when Tomorrow the 3rd OQT is already scheduled (most likely, the tournament in :POL on April 21st, 2024 won't count towards the Olympic Qualification, but nobody has said/written anything about it) :mumble:

But it's correct, WF had 2 tournaments in the previous season (Plovdiv and Tbilisi) with 3 to go it feels right to have overall 5 tournaments

no, because it's Tomorrow + 3 more...and since they already have 2, it makes 6

however, as I wrote, I think the last one of those 6 won't count towards qualification...we'll see how FIE manages that :dunno:

meanwhile in :CAN Vancouver, total disaster for the :ITA female epee specialists (all the team members out in the early rounds) :facepalm:

and the men's event doesn't look promising, too (even if Di Veroli survived a big scare in the 1st round and together with Vismara are still in play in the round of 32, but the rest of the team has long gone) :nopompom:

But the last WC will be after the deadline so it will be included only in seeding ranking for OG

Therefore, we'll have Novi Sad tomorrow, Paris in January and Cairo in February + Plovdiv and Tbilisi

    • Hey guys, I contribute Skeleton articles for a new winter-sports focused website called "All things Snow".   I was wondering if any of you could please spare a few moments to read my latest article on the World Cup finale in Altenberg a few weeks ago.   Any feedback on length, content, or just general tips will be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to implement them in my Olympic Skeleton recap pieces. Thanks!   https://allthingssnow.net/2026/01/19/pfeifer-and-wyatt-win-the-finale-meylemans-and-weston-seal-crystal-globes/

    • changes that go absolutely against the Italians (notoriously the top swimmers and not the best shooters in MP) 😭😭😭   now it's really time to axe MP from the Games 😈🥳
    • I think there was a feeling before the obstacle course was introduced that really, really solid endurance runners were starting to dominate - in Triathlon you might call it the Alex Yee conundrum. Personally, I don't mind at all if the 'martial' elements are reemphasised as that is the real 'soul' of the sport - Triathlon, Marathon and Road cycing are there for genuine endurace, MP is in some senses a 'soldiery' test - one reason I thought Judo might have been a better addition than the obstacle course. But placing a higher emphasis on the fight bits over the flight bits seems a legitimate idea - though it should also increase the X-country nature of the run so that the test of a fresh shooter at the beginning is rather different from the test of a knackered one at the end. I quite like the artificial hill in rio.
