So basically, if :USA reaches the quarterfinals then the 9th, maybe 10th place nation can qualify to the Olympics. If not, then the quotas will be decided after the playoffs.

 

I really want both :MNE and :ROU to qualify, but it's looking likely that one will eliminate the other.

So the bracket is looking like...

 

:ESP v :MNE or :ROU

:GRE v :ITA or :USA

:SRB v :CRO or :BRA / :CHN

:HUN v :FRA or :AUS

 

Teams who haven't already qualified to Paris: :MNE  :ROU  :ITA  :SRB  :CRO  :BRA  :CHN

 

I don't see any good reason to doubt that :SRB  :CRO  :ITA  :MNE will qualify. I guess :ROU has a small chance for an upset.

Since in the quarterfinals there will be at least 4 teams already qualified to the olympics (Spain, Greece, Hungary and the winner of Australia-France), any not yet qualified team that makes the quarterfinals secures an olympic spot. Which means Serbia qualified today.

 

As it was mentioned above, the only case olympic qualification will come down to the 9th-12th place playoffs is if USA eliminates Italy on Sunday.
