Men's Cricket ICC World Cup 2023

Recommended Posts

as expected, :AFG didn't have the fire inside, but still :RSA did show how difficult is for them chasing other teams' scores

game #42, :RSA beat :AFG by 5 wickets

:AFG posted a not so amazing 244/all out in 50 overs, then it took good 47.3 overs to :RSA to overtake that score with 247/5 (despite never being in danger of not completing the chase, tbh)

so, after Today's match basically we know the 4 teams qualified to the knockout stage, as :PAK would need more than a miracle to overtake :NZL as written in the previous post: :IND are safe in 1st place, no matter how the last match goes; :RSA are also safe in 2nd place; :AUS are the favourites to keep the 3rd spot, but they have to avoid a bad loss Tomorrow vs :BAN to seal the deal; :NZL almost surely will be 4th

Tomorrow, game #43 is scheduled between :AUS and :BAN at 6 a.m. CET in Pune, meanwhile game #44 features :PAK and :ENG at 9.30 a.m. CET in Kolkata

those 2 matches will mathematically put the last nails on the coffin of the round robin for what concerns the top of the standings and will finally determine the semifinals' matchups

I guess no big surprises, except for England having a terrible tournament.

And of course West Indies not participating.

Plus Afghanistan's strong performance.

well underway right now...

Semifinal #1, :IND vs :NZL in Mumbai

:IND won the toss and choose to bat

so far they're really batting hard, their score is 197/1 after 28 overs (RR: 7.04)

and they're slowing down in the last few overs, they started so strong that they completed the 1st power play with a RR of almost 9 :yikes:

tbh, I expected a (lot) better bowling from the :NZL team, if :IND can keep this pace until the end of the 1st inning, :NZL will have absolutely no chance in their offensive stint

1st inning completed, :IND posted 397/4 in 50 overs

now it's :NZL turn to try and overcome that very impressive score of the Home Nation

and they started with 2 "Fours" off Bumrah in the first 4 deliveries...not bad!

as expected, :NZL could do nothing against the mighty Indian bowlers (Shami was totally dominating the game, he recorded 7 wickets :yikes:)...

actually, they were very good to score 327 runs, but clearly it wasn't enough

in this game, moreover, an amazing and unforgettable milestone was set by Virat Kohli, who scored his 50th "century" (117 runs from 113 balls) and now he's the man with the most centuries in ODI matches in the history of the game, overtaking in this special ranking the great Sachin Tendulkar (and he did it at Tendulkar's sport home, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai...poetry is not dead, after all)

Semifinal #1, :IND beat :NZL by 70 runs

as written earlier, :IND posted a 397/4 in 50 overs, :NZL could only answer with 327/all out in 48.5 overs, so :IND advance to the big Final

Tomorrow, it's time for the Semifinal #2, :RSA vs :AUS at 9.30 a.m. CET in Kolkata

the big Final, instead, is scheduled for Sunday in Ahmedabad

:RSA won the toss and chose to bat (which is the most obvious choice of the entire CWC)

but nothing went according to plan for them, as :AUS bowlers dominated the game and didn't let :RSA any chance to post a decent score

:RSA completed their offensive inning with just a miserable 212/all out in 49.4 overs

I don't see how they will be capable to defend that...

they need more than a miracle (which actually already happened in the past, but they were on the wrong side )
