Mediterranean Games 2022

Absolute chaos in weightlifting. Qerimaj :ALB given a no lift on his final attempt (he had failed his two previous), which looked technically acceptable to me. He begins to celebrate before it’s ruled a no lift. He and the Albanian team then go nuts when it’s ruled a no lift. The jury intervenes, but as they’re deliberating the Albanian team surrounds the table and begins arguing with them. Qerimaj is waltzing around the platform pissed. Eventually the call is overturned, giving him a good lift and the lead. He then celebrates more before being escorted off the platform.

I’m not sure if situations like this help improve the credibility of the sport, but it was certainly something to watch.

Anyway, Zanni :ITA wins the gold medal in snatch on his final lift :p

So it's okay when they do it but not other countries. Alright then.

If Nyfantopoulos were Algerian instead of Greek, I'm sure you would have a different opinion...

in football we lost vs france 3-2 and the scorer of the french wining goal was :ALG:lol:

I found it hilarious the guy in white (I think he’s the announcer) just calmly watched the whole thing and he was like “ah shit here we go again”

Yes but I imagine he lived in France most of his life, no?

A big difference from the athletes Turkey and Azerbaijan buy, who are nothing but mercenaries. Let's be honest here.

What about Pol Moya, 800m?

No medal for him there. He had a nice showing in the 1500m tonight, but no medal there either.

Can :TUR runs a similar race to Gega. Takes the lead early in the 5000m and wins the race with a handy margin. I think it’s a smart strategy if you’re confident your best is a comfortable amount above everyone else’s.

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
