Boxing IOC European Olympic Games Qualifier 2020

Recommended Posts

Viliam Tanko lost his direct quota match in the -57kg to :RUS

Now my question is, if RUS will be banned of the Olympics or for example Russian Boxing authorities already annoounced they will not send their boxers to Tokyo if Russia will have to compete in Tokyo under neutral flag. Will Tanko receive the reallocation ? or the quota will be reallocated in other way ? Pitty he lost today, t would be a huge step and moment for our Roma minority, the guy would be the first slovak olympian from this minority..

Why are (in non-virus circumstances) quarter finals and so on even held in these tournaments when a spot in the QF is all one cares about? :p

A good question! I suppose completing the tournament enables them to present "medals" and perhaps more importantly give boxers more experience of competing in an Olympic-style event. Otherwise I can't think of any reason for it. I can't believe they are really going to ask the sixteen boxers who have already qualified for Tokyo to turn up for the rest of the qualifying tournament in May or whenever it resumes when it would serve no purpose and only expose them to the risk of infection from Coronavirus.

Now the replays aren't even available anymore on OC, either because 'usage license has expired' (WTF?) or 'Something went wrong while setting up a Google DAI stream'. Right.

Anyway, they have cancelled the rest of it!

postponed...

it's been announced that, if the Olympics are still held this year, the tournament will restart from the exct point when it's been stopped and the already contested fights count...

    • It looks like the IIHF is sticking with 3-on-3 overtime for all events moving forward.     BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    • Although it was a terrible Olympics for Canada, and my two favourite sports (Hockey and Short Track) really didn't work out for us, there were a couple of fun times.    -Women's Pursuit team winning gold because while it was not unexpected at all, it was still a great triumph against an amazing adversary.    -Dubreuil getting a surprise bronze in speed skating 500m.    -Really all of speed skating, Canada and otherwise.    -I really want to say Dubois getting gold in short track, but the whole thing was a mess.    -The last two ends of the men's curling gold medal game.    -Kingsbury getting gold. But it was more relief than excitement, unfortunately.    -I really like the luge relay. Canada was not involved, unfortunately, but it's always fun to watch.    -Men's freeski big air final was nuts! In all the good ways. That was truly the highest level of competition I've seen in a very long time.    -The dog crossing the finish line in cross country, which should have been the meme of the Olympics (not that...other thing).
    • It was also nice to have actual crowds again. I think the Beijing organizers did the best they could given the COVID regulations that still existed in China at the time, but it sure did dampen the atmosphere *a lot*.
    • I was in premium economy as well, the extra five inches of leg room definitively helped me stay sane.   For BA I was in business class and I just wasn't impressed at all, despite the cabin itself being really good (it was a 787-900 so their newer business class product). The service was just... not good enough for international business class - they actually made me appreciate Air Canada xD . With Condor I could forgive the service not being that good because of how little (relatively) I paid, and the seat was comfortable enough.
    • Yes. This was the best WOG since at least Sochi 2014. I only started paying attention to the Olympics after London 2012, so small sample size. But, this was the best WOG I can remember. European fans and atmosphere make everything better in my opinion.
    • There were lots of good moments , this olympics felt so special (I am talking of WOG). The last time I really enjoyed viewing WOG was in Sochi & this tops it. So many feel good moments, very well attended event with spectators filling up stands & making an atmosphere. So many top performances, but for me the  women team dominating the Biathlon event was really special. All 3 of them were just so good & gave top performance. I love it how the female commentator pronounced  Lou Jeanmonnot  & finally grazie mille  we loved it! Thanks for making me fall in love with winter sports again
    • I'm surprised that some Hungarians here are interested in some Nazis in Kiev, instead of their country's economic decline over the last 15-20 years, falling under Romania's level of GDP, when around 2000 it was the richest country in the all former post-communist region. But I understand that this is Orban's tactic to continue ruling and stealing the country, to distract from truly important matters and focus on trivial matters. Clinton's campaign slogan in the USA many years ago: "The economy, stupid!" I think that the current opposition leader in HUN should probably do the same- just do your thing and let Orban himself with all of this Soros, Nazis, etc, only the Martians are still missing in this madness, but that may come to pass
    • I found Condor really nice. I did upgrade myself, so maybe thats why. I would fly them again
