Is it too over? I mean being cautious is good but isn't it should be accessed weekly or monthly. Eager to start economy is risky but just ignoring it and staying at home too long may cause unrecoverable damage to the economy. It shouldn't be a two extremes battle in my opinion.

I was also surprised at this decision as here in Europe even the most hard hit countries and regions have adopted a faster "relaxation" plan.

I assume the situation as assessed by their (LA county / CA state) authorities is still bad, or, alternatively, they are afraid that people coming from more "infected" states/regions of the USA would bring back the virus if they relax too quickly.

No, our mayor said that they will evaluate the plan every week, but this is the plan for now. We just can’t trust many Americans to follow social distancing rules, or mask laws, or other other measures.

It definitely shouldn’t be a two extremes battle, but that’s the U.S. for you.

Yesterday we had record number of cases 556 (453 of them from miners of coal mines in Silesia) + 27 new deaths and 315 recoveries

Today it's 322 cases (167 from Silesia) + 23 new deaths and 279 recoveries

Despite those big numbers from 18th May next step of lifting restrictions will be introducted:

  • Outdoor cinemas (I don't know any outdoor cinema in my city..) will be open
  • Work on plans for movies and music videos will resume
  • Cycling tracks, ski jumping hills, small stadiums for children will only be reopen to up 14 people
  • Large football stadiums will be available only for 22 players and 3 coaches (it's about national football leagues)
  • Swimming pools, gyms and sports halls will remain closed
  • Hairdressing salons and beauty salons with will be opened withs restrictions (e.g. waiting rooms will be closed, you can come there only if you reserved "your turn" earlier by phone)
  • Restaurants, cafes and bars will also be reopened with restrictions such as, keeping 2m distance, wearing gloves and masks by employees and wearing gloves by customers. Customers can take off masks only during consumption (wow...), disinfecting each table after each client and every 15 minutes if no one comes

From 25th May, children in grades of 1-3 in primary schools will be take care in schools if parents can't stay at home with their children because they have go to work.

Borders will remain closed at least until 12th June.

How on earth can they even attempt to compare a place like the United States (330 million) to a country like Slovakia (5 million)?

If anything, living in small places with limited international travel has proven highly advantageous in battling the coronavirus crisis. And even there, living in small towns/villages is even more beneficial than living in cities.

Also, is there no 1.5 m rule in Slovakia? :p

Plus, you’re comparing a population that largely believes in basic scientific principles, to one that refuses to.

Yeah those photos of leaders standing directly next to each other, ignoring what's widely been called the number one safety measure, have baffled me since the beginning (from multiple countries) :p

Population itself says something, but population density says even more. I'm guessing Bratislava is Slovakia's most densely populated city (do correct me if I'm wrong), and it's barely even at 30% of the density of the 133rd most densely populated US city. If you're not densely populated, you're going to do a hell of a lot better.

To take it to an extreme: even if they might have given everyone in the former Kowloon Walled City a mask, no way it would not have spread like madness there simply because distance :p

    • Something you do not see often Kutaisi intentionally tried to not win a match twice in regular time and 2 following extra times and in all 3 times failed   They were supposed to win by 7 points at least to keep their chance to qualify in Eurocup competition alive, so when they could win by 2 they decided to not   That was hilarious I recommend to watch both the ends of 4 quarter and both Extra times

    • it's not difficult when you have such a strict policy to enter or leave the country. Or when you have a dictator that can mask number as he wish, if he can convince their people that a highly censored and restrictive land can host a competition like the Olympic Games, i'm sure he can convince no covid case was detected.   One fun fact is that their guards and border control officers were very serious and strict with people from other nationalities when entering the country, but with us it was very different, they would look at our passport with serious face, look at the country, look at us, start smiling and say "Portugal?? Cristiano Ronaldo!!!!"   This behaviour happened in every single checkpoint in every single Central Asia land. It's like a vip pass in this area of the world
    • I still remember watching the World Junior Championships in Moncton when ES was hyping her unbeaten streak of 100+ races or whatever the number was and she promptly came 2nd in 200m
    • After four weekends of winter sports, we are slowly entering the middle of the winter season . And, as usual, it's time for statistics that I don't know which theared to put in      After 29 events, 20 different NOCs was already on the podium. After several seasons, Uzbekistan is also back on the podium thanks to figure skating (and two former Russians).   This weekend will be all about ice sports, with a total of 13 events: 4 in figure skating (first stage in Europe) and 9 in short track (second stage in Montreal, since SLC was cancelled)
    • World Boxing approved seven new applications from the National Federations in Andorra, Belgium, Iraq, Lithuania, Madagascar, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand.
