@heywoodu do you know how much testing is done in the Netherlands?

Plenty of Danes continue commenting on us not taking it serious enough, which made me think of the difference between the growth in Denmark and Netherlands who had the first case the same day.

No idea, but it does sound like hospitals have taken it upon themselves to go outside of what the authorities say and start testing more suspicious cases. No idea about numbers though.

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

Interesting how you have 5 cases and the two biggest universities are shutting down for two weeks already, while we now have 265 cases and the only thing so far is a recommendation to - when you're in a certain province - stay home if you have some mild symptoms :p

SVK Population 5 and half million

NED Population 17+ million

Anyway, the best procedure to avoid the general public panic is to show to the people you are doing something to avoid the epidemic, our politicians have long long years experiences of how "artificially" calm it´s nervous people :p

I think people here would absolutely be panicking more if literally a handful of cases leads to universities and stuff being shut down for two weeks :p

A few cases and nothing changes: "Oh, ok."

A few cases and things shut down:

After the news broke this morning of the 4 cases, all schools, universities, cinemas, theaters, gyms are being closed. All sports will be without fans and in the two provinces with the cases all sport is cancelled. Public transport will be regularly sanitized. :d Everything is for the precaution, because people don't seem worried at all for now.

Don't people feel like that's a bit of an overreaction? I mean, there's something like just barely reacting at all, there's closing half the country with less than 10 cases and there's something in between, one would say

Well,

- the children are happy they won't go to school,

- the students are happy they won't go to lectures,

- our domestic sport has almost no spectators either way,

- the public transport is getting cleaned

I mean :d

    • Finals are set    An all-Canadian final on the women’s side, as Team Homan looks to win their third title of the season (and improve to 18-1) against a hungry Team Einarson who have had a less than ideal start to the season, they were also the last Canadian team to beat Homan over a year ago (same event coincidentally), while on the men’s side it’ll be a battle between Olympic medalists as Team Mouat goes against Team Gushue!
    • Yeah, it was clear. But i repeat, we need it? I think no.
    • GSOC HearingLife Tour Challenge Semifinals  Women  Team Fujisawa v.  Team Einarson  Team Lawes v.  Team Homan   Men  Team Mouat v.  Team McEwen  Team Dunstone v.  Team Gushue
    • In the past the ISU has now allowed countries without a Federation to compete.
    • yeah I know    I mean it wasn't a different team specific for that sport. it was the same CC team participating in both sports.
    • It is run by a different federation though
    • from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline ) and ... (this one will be surprising ) ... Curling    Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport  you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ?    anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC)   nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)
    • World Junior Championships ( Dushanbe)   Day #4 Medallists   women's -78kg Gold:  Brenda Olaya Silver:  Mathilda Sophie Niemeyer Bronze:  Eva Ronja Buddenkotte &  Dandara Camilo   women's +78kg Gold:  Lee Hyeon Ji Silver:  Celia Cancan Bronze:  Chihiro Yamaguchi &  Safa Soliman   men's -100kg Gold:  Mukhammadsodik Sodikov Silver:  Nozomu Miki Bronze:  Azhdar Baghirov &  Fares Mekhoukh   men's +100kg Gold:  Denis Batchaev Silver:  Kanan Nasibov Bronze:  Saba Kardava &  Ibrahim Tataroglu
    • 100 days to go until the first multi-sports games of the 2025
    • 11 medals out of 15 athletes. for whatever reason  we sent an incomplete team of 16 athletes (only 1 left for tomorrow) I wish I knew why  I can guess though   the result is indeed very good in such a competitive sport but lack of talent was never our problem in taekwondo. it was always there probably much more than any other country.    but the problem is the transition to the senior team. most of previous junior world champions never even made the senior team. (the new federation is doing better in this regard though)
