Yesterday Hamilton wasn't penalised (oh yes, what surprise :coffee:) becouse for the FIA he didn't slow down the yellow flag regime BUT the yellow flag wasn't show on the display...

Aaand surprise, the display was yellow

Yeah, the standard theories of FIA always helping Mercedes and Ferrari are happily going round again :d

At least in the Netherlands it's being compared with Verstappen getting a penalty in Mexico for the same thing, which I don't think is entirely fair of a comparison. For Verstappen there definitely was just yellow in the turn, but for Hamilton they were waving both yellow and green in the same turn yesterday. Much as I really don't like Hamilton, I can accept him not getting a penalty (which would have moved him from 2nd to 2nd?) there.

His time was dropped but, reading the rules, he should be penalised by 3 or 13 (it depends) positions.

One says "according to the rules he should", another says "according to the rules he shouldn't". No group of experts agrees, and in that case it's just better to not penalise someone. Besides, think of the fun we can have now if the Mercedes guys hit each other in turn one :d

I hate Hamilton basically forcing everyone to do what he wants them to do. It is perfectly fine for drivers to say "I am 100% against racism, but in a race weekend I am going to focus on my race and I won't be taking a knee." This does not make them complicit in anything, this makes them people who say they are against racism (which is a good thing, I'm sure we all agree).

The whole thing is that one should have the freedom to choose those things, just like Hamilton should absolutely be free to show a protest or support or whatnot. It's not freedom (and also not a genuine show of support) if people are only doing it because Hamilton yells in their ears that they have to do it 'or else'.

Hamilton doesn't "yell" "or else". He just wants a selfless act of showing unity on an issue. Drivers are obviously free to say no to that, but Hamilton is also free to call them out on it for choosing to not do it. Personally I call bs on the "I want to focus on the race" excuse. There are many formal stuff that takes places before every damn sport event, including races. Would anyone be fine with someone saying before a world cup match "sorry guys, I will skip the anthems because I want to focus on the match"? Or the same for the Indy500:  "sorry guys, I am not an American, I won't stand up for their anthem, I want to focus".

I have no idea wtf Leclerc is thinking with that statement. It reads like he doesn't want to do it because it would hurt the feelings of some people (aka. racist). The only people who would see that formal gesture as controversial are racists.

Not literally those words, but saying you're complicit (and thus basically calling you a racist) if you don't do what he does isn't far off. He is not giving anyone a real choice to show support in the way they want it, he is telling people they have to show support in the way he wants it.

Anyway, we're not going to agree on it and I'm not much looking forward to letting this thing make gaps bigger (even though we're all clearly against racism), so I'm just gonna wait for the start and enjoy the race.

You do realize Leclerc's family owns half of the housing estate in Monaco? Nobody tells the rich what should they do - especially if Hamilton earns 40 million pounds annually himself ;)  F1 is not for philantrophists and never will be, period.

So? That's doesn't mean people can't criticize him. And while "nobody can tell them what to do", the public image of any professional athlete does matter to their team because a large portion of their income depends on how many merch people buy.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
