competitive swimming is back also in Italy! :cheer:

from today through thrsday, in fact, the traditional Settecolli meet is on stage in Rome...

since this time the competition is also awarding the Italian National Summer titles, basically all the best Italian swimmers are at the start...from Federica Pellegrini to Simona Quadarella, from Gabriele Detti to super-Greg Paltrinieri (who's definitely the focal point of the event, after he changed coach and training center in the middle of the Spring, during the covid-19 imposed break)...

there are 3 sessions every day...in the morning only the slowest heats in each discipline are swam, meanwhile the top 16* swimmers on paper (based on the entry times) in each race will be on stage every evening at 7 p.m. CET

*top 10 only in the 800m and 1500m free races

being an international meet, however, means that also some good swimmers from other Countries are going to swim in Rome...

entry lists and clockings can be found here:

http://fin2020.microplustiming.com/NU_2020_08_11-13_Roma_web.php

live coverage of the evening session (7 p.m. CET) will also be available on the sports channel of the Italian public TV, Raisport+ HD...

here's the stream (hoping that swimming is not geo-blocked):

Competitive swimming came back to Lithuania as well with a two day competition, unfortunately in a 25m course pool

Nothing too out of the ordinary happened, Rapšys and Šidlauskas look in a fairly decent form, Titenis, Teterevkova (won 5 different races though) and Margevičius still have room for improvement.

One of the youngsters, Daniil Pancerevas, 2004yob broke four records in the age group of sixteen yo's, 200m Freestyle (lost less than 6 seconds to Rapšys), 50 and 100m Butterfly and 100m medley.

A lot of girls born in the 2006-2007s are breaking all of our U14 swimming records as well.

Last year it was Silvija Statkevičius (2006) with 200m/400m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke in short course, 200m/400m/800m Freestyle records in long course.

Then there's Smiltė Plytnykaitė (2007) getting rid of all of Rūta Meilutytė's age group records in the Breaststroke (which will be extremely interesting to follow her this year and the next, since it was the time when Rūta smashed all of her times and reached a new level as a 14-16 year old. (I think she also holds some Medley records as well, another one of Rūta's specialties)

Erika Pasakinskaitė (2006) with a 200m Butterfly record and coming close to 50m,100m as well

And in today's competition it's Patricija Geriksonaitė (2007) with a 50m Backstroke record.

So yeah, a lot of young girls with potential, we've ruined that before a lot of times (Šeleikaitė won a lot of medals in juniors after Meilutytė's phase, but now she's swimming irrelevant times and swimming a lot of butterfly and freestyle instead of breaststroke, whilst Teterevkova also with a few medals in juniors will have to prove herself in the next few years if she has at least half of what Rūta had). Still, this could perhaps be something.

super-Greg Paltrinieri just swum a new European Record in the men's 1500m at the Settecolli meet in Rome in 14.33.10...:cheer:

yesterday he was really close in the men's 800m Free, when he swum 7.40.22 (less than a second above his own ER), but today he was just fantastic...a wonderful solo ride against the clock (the second placed swimmer was Domenico Acerenza in 14.49.98)...

more notable results in these 3 days in Rome: Gabriele Detti won the men's 400m Free in 3.43.73 ahead of Marco De Tullio in 3.44.94; Nicolò Martinenghi won the men's 100m Breast in 59.43 and the 50m Breast in 26.94; Benedetta Pilato, as already written, swum a new Junior World Record (and also Italian Senior Record) in the women's 50m Breast in 29.85; the Swiss Lisa Mamiè won the women's 100m Breast in 1.06.60; Federica Pellegrini just took a relaxing bath to win both the women's 100m and the 200m Free in 54.33 and 1.57.80 respectively; finally, 100m Free reigning European Champion Alessandro Miressi won both the men's 50m and 100m Free in 21.93 and 48.15 respectively...

I thought China weren't going to stage any international events until the end of the year. Can't see those 2 Asian events in September happening.

I think that stage in Singapore might happen, but with only Asian swimmers, but those in China, no way, it will not take place.
