It's very old rumour. Due to Olympics I doubt this will happen since I see them participating in at least 8 sports at the games. Having a Russia International Games in 2025 will be fun though

Russians athlete will partecipate in Paris 2024, albeit in reduced team.
They are probably qualified in:
- judo;
- tennis;
- fencing (individual);
- cycling bmx
- wrestling

If they are allowed in then a lot of countries will boycott including possibly big nations like the UK.

Why would they qualify in cycling BMX?

They are in a qualifying spot for 1 place on the road for men and 2 for women but they're unlikely to make the top 10 ranking that they would need to get a spot in BMX.

There is just no evidence that :GBR would boycott.

Whilst the government may be vocal in their opposition to Russia taking part, the decision on participation will ultimately come down to the BOA. The only thing that could happen would be a diplomatic boycott - as happened with Beijing - but even this is unlikely given the importance of UK-France relations.

The BOA wouldn’t be able to sustain the pressure if the Government and media really pushed them to boycott. It’s not 1980 anymore.

I just don't think that the BOA are going to come under any pressure. At least in terms of sport, there is no real groundswell of anti-Russian sentiment within the public or mainstream media and the public actually enjoy the Olympics so it's unlikely that there will be pressure on those fronts.

From a political perspective, given that next year is a general election year this isn't going to be a priority for any of the parties because it is unlikely that it would be a vote winner.

I could be proved wrong, but at the moment, I don't see any circumstances that result in GB have sporting boycott.

Fencer can qualify, really? They choose to sent their weakest fencers to different starts in order to ruin Ukraine's qualification, so they won't qualify

well, those who already entered the last world cup stages theiretically can qualify

if they're capable to do it, that's another story

in any case, the rule is: no teams (of course) and no to those fencers who are registered in Russia with the Army teams (CSKA, SKA an so on) or with clubs owned by oligarcs already sanctioned by the EU and/or UN

all the others can still try and qualify, if they actually can on the piste

Shooting, Boxing, Table Tennis, Swimming and Archery could join the list.

    • Greece and Portugal also have winter sports centres - but of course these are not homologated routes for World Cup competitions I have never been to Albania personally, so I don't know the country at all. I have been in southern Croatia, though, and there are mountains there but you definitely can't ski there (I was there in the summer, but it's also impossible in the winter). World cup taking place there only in Zagreb.    In general the case of Colturi and Kostelic is completely different: Colturi has no ties to Albania and Janica Kostelic was Croatian and didn't left their country even though at the beginning of her carrier (and also her brother Ivica) her father had to pay for everything and the federation's support was zero. This only changed later. I imagine that the Kostelic family had offers from other countries (Austria, Switzerland, Italy?) to compete for them, which were much richer (at the beginning of the 21st century Croatia was a very poor country and devastated by war). All the more respect for them because they were true Croatian patriots until the end. I can imagine the Colturi family in a similar situation... Her mother would probably negotiate with half of Alpine Europe for Lara to compete for them Which of course doesn't change the fact that the Italian federation completely gave a shit in this situation. They let such talent go in a situation where they hasn`t a single female athlete on the podium of the World Cup in slalom for a dozen or so years. In the giant slalom it's not much better either, only there the older athletes cloud the picture: Brignone and Bassino. However, behind these two there is absolutely nothing...
    • Atalanta is probably playing the most beautiful football in Europe right now: spectacular and effective. It's nice to watch and they don't have to spend a lot of money for it.   Inter is playing very economically. It's not impressive but it's consistently collecting points. It's also the only team in the Champions League that hasn't conceded a goal this season.   Milan played very poorly yesterday but they won. They have 9 points and are close to qualifying for the play-offs.
