You forgot to mention that "try to qualify" in this particular case meant sharing a video on tiktok.

An innovative format. Literally anyone could qualify. People could also view all qualification entries and choose their favorites (not that it had much weight on selection, but it got the individual athletes more attention).

Also, it wasn’t TikTok. It was a platform created by the WDSF.

So if Dakar was moved 4 years, I would suspect the plan is still to have 2022 or even 2023 Youth Olympics. 10 bucks it will be either Qatar or China hosting the event

Let’s not forget about Colombia either.

I'll never understand how YOG ever gets any following anyway. IOC is basically just milking their name and status to sell more of their brand.

Youth Olympic Games are neither a proper Olympic nor youth event.

Pretty much this. It's unfortunate that the 2022 edition is probably cancelled, but let's not kid ourselves of how significant this is.

Everything was perfectly normal when there were no YOG at all. It's not the be all, end all for these kids.

I don't think competing at the YOG will decide if these athletes will have a sporting career or not in the future. It's just a nice experience for them and something cool to say in school. It's a junior event after all.

Now, if we were talking about Tokyo, then that would be magnitude 9 catastrophe.

I'm very, very angry now. No Junior Worlds in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics in 2021, no YOG in 2022. I've never really been a huge fan of the Olympics (it's not a secret I only care about artistic and rhythmic gymnastics), but I enjoy the YOG for what is is. Terrible decision.

And heavyweight weightlifting if Russia is not banned :old:

It's a multi-sports event that's global instead of regional (I know not all the best youths in the world compete), and it does showcase a lot of athletes who grow up to become pretty big. And it's live sports if watching it is possible, I'm not gonna pass up that opportunity easily.

Was said selection based on the skill or on 'how cool' it looked? :p

It was based on skill. There was criteria that the judges were looking for. They had a panel of past elite b-boys/girls whose job was to judge every entry. I think it took them a whole month or something.

Yeah sorry, we don't have a month to judge events during the Olympics. Too bad! :p

my friends, really...

I just can't understand (and never I'll do it) how a bunch of kids having seizures like epileptics can be put into the Olympic program...:nopompom:

Every time this comes up I want to correct someone and say "Hold on, it's not on the real Olympic program yet". Until I realize it is

    • Finals are set    An all-Canadian final on the women’s side, as Team Homan looks to win their third title of the season (and improve to 18-1) against a hungry Team Einarson who have had a less than ideal start to the season, they were also the last Canadian team to beat Homan over a year ago (same event coincidentally), while on the men’s side it’ll be a battle between Olympic medalists as Team Mouat goes against Team Gushue!
    • Yeah, it was clear. But i repeat, we need it? I think no.

    • In the past the ISU has now allowed countries without a Federation to compete.
    • yeah I know    I mean it wasn't a different team specific for that sport. it was the same CC team participating in both sports.
    • It is run by a different federation though
    • from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline ) and ... (this one will be surprising ) ... Curling    Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport  you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ?    anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC)   nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)
    • World Junior Championships ( Dushanbe)   Day #4 Medallists   women's -78kg Gold:  Brenda Olaya Silver:  Mathilda Sophie Niemeyer Bronze:  Eva Ronja Buddenkotte &  Dandara Camilo   women's +78kg Gold:  Lee Hyeon Ji Silver:  Celia Cancan Bronze:  Chihiro Yamaguchi &  Safa Soliman   men's -100kg Gold:  Mukhammadsodik Sodikov Silver:  Nozomu Miki Bronze:  Azhdar Baghirov &  Fares Mekhoukh   men's +100kg Gold:  Denis Batchaev Silver:  Kanan Nasibov Bronze:  Saba Kardava &  Ibrahim Tataroglu
    • 100 days to go until the first multi-sports games of the 2025
    • 11 medals out of 15 athletes. for whatever reason  we sent an incomplete team of 16 athletes (only 1 left for tomorrow) I wish I knew why  I can guess though   the result is indeed very good in such a competitive sport but lack of talent was never our problem in taekwondo. it was always there probably much more than any other country.    but the problem is the transition to the senior team. most of previous junior world champions never even made the senior team. (the new federation is doing better in this regard though)
