Marathon Swimming at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023

Paltrinieri seems to be using the same strategy as his training partner Beck did yesterday. Let's see if the result will be the same.

First ever WCh medal for Raso in the 10k, two years after his Olympic silver. We really needed this considering our situation in the pool.

So no new athlete quotas as all three swimmers already qualified in the pool.

Beck :GER doubles up on the open water events, this time winning the women's 5km title. Van Rouwendaal :NED takes silver, and Cunha :BRA completes the podium with bronze.

That's not quite correct as the DSV in Germany has tightened the criteria for the Olympic Qualification.

Basically all achieved quotas in the pool are worthless and the swimmers have to reach the quota again in April 2024.

Only exceptions are swimmers that reach Top4 at the World Championships 2023 or 2024.
So in fact these are first real German quotas in swimming.

but that's the same for most of the top swimming Nations

although, here we have to take notice of the official quota places awarded by the IOC/FINA rules

and because of those, there are a few swimmers that technically are already eligible to start the Olympic 10km race, even if they're not sure to go to the Olympics because of their own National rules (stricter than the International's)

Paltrinieri much closer than in the 10 km race. Could be seen as an encouraging sign. Really weird that Klemet (and Romanchuk) were so far off. Klemet was clearly better than the Italians in the 10 km race and is also clearly better over 400 m, but somehow he couldn’t be close to them in the 5 km race. Beck has proven once again that she doesn’t need tricks to dominate. At the moment she is clearly the best in the world apart from maybe Grimes.

Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
